  2. This is from michaelg's comments in members section on Mike Paletta' talk at CMAS Event: see bold part. Mike's talk was on SPS propagation, keeping, and coloration. On the fragmentation side- the one thing he strongly recommends is mounting horizontally rather than upright. He has also changed tunes on feeding- and recommends it. All the stuff that we commonly discuss (golden pearls, cyclopeeze, home brew cocktails). Coloration and general keeping- He thinks of calcium reactors more of alkalinity reactors- additional supplimentation fo calcium is needed. Phosphates were another big focus of commentary- He strongly feels that the ROWAPHOS product is supperior to the other products on the market- though is needs to be fluidized to be effective. Lower phosphates leads to increased nitrate uptake by the calerpas in refugiums. He seemed to feel that low nutrient levels really help with coloration.
  3. NOTE: REMEMBER there is a NEW location for this meeting - just up / down the road from other school we had a few meetings at in the past. PLEASE read directions.

As mentioned in another thread, the officers are busy working on organizing the Symposium. If we are successful at that, we plan to put in a bid for a MACNA if the members approve of that venture. I'll swith you guys to wamas volunteer status and create a forum thread for you so you can post your plans. :D

  15. I went to Allegheny College, in Meadville, PA. I played football. My Junior year I was starting left OT. We won the Div. III title that year (1990). Got my 15 minutes of fame playing in the Stagg bowl on ESPN. Gator part is from Allegheny College's mascot - kinda funny to think of alligators in NW PA. Avatar is Allegheny's mascot / logo for athletic teams. I found a T-shirt that had a logo that said Gatortail Ale with motto: it's the swamp water that makes it taste good. Just adopted it cause it's different and I like to tell tall tales with friends while drinking down a few cold ones. [beer2]
  16. Happy Friday Everyone! WHAT'S NEW On Wednesday a fresh shipment of captive bred fish arrived. Our captive bred fish include all of our clowns, clams, a few dottybacks and in this shipment we were pleased to receive Yellow Assessors. From our regular supplier, we welcomed a couple of Orange Striped Cardinal fish and an absolutely perfect specimen of a juvenile Mimic Tang. This tang mimics a Lemonpeel angel ( http://www.marinescene.com/detail.asp?id=1000 ) then as it matures, it's colors change dramatically to brown with bright orange on the fin edges. ( http://www.marinescene.com/detail.asp?id=1007 ) The fish is called a Chocolate Tang in it's adult phase. WHAT'S ON SALE All Ebo-Jager heaters will be 10% off this weekend. Garlic guard food additive will be 20% off. All frozen Mysis shrimp cubes will be on sale for 15% off. Take 15% off all ROWA phosphate removers. ROWA is the only phosphate remover that is aluminum free, this means no irritation or ill effects to your corals. We have a few Maxi-jet powerheads with water damaged packaging that we are selling off at 30% off. Of course the powerheads themselves are still new and undamaged. Last of all we are having an Acropora clearance this weekend. Take $10 off any and every Acropora coral in the store! DID YOU KNOW? Do you know the difference between Brine and Mysis shrimps? Fish love both of them but only one of them has real nutritional value. Brine shrimp are basically just exoskeleton that must taste good but it isn't doing much for the health of your fish. Mysis shrimp are much better for the fish over all and they seem to love it. Be careful when feeding Brine; fish will actually become spoiled on it and begin refusing all other foods. If you have this problem already there are vitamin additives I would recommend adding to the Brine shrimp to increase it's nutritional value. Even many picky eaters will accept Mysis so consider making the switch. Don't forget, this weekend all of our frozen Mysis shrimp will be on sale. Well that's all for now folks, see you soon and enjoy your weekend!
