Aaron, The Spring meeting April 17, will cover a lot of your questions - Reefkeeping 101 presentation. We will go over different ways to set up tank - we don't recommend one method over another; we just want to inform people of the options and let them decide. Some things work for one person, but don't work for someone else. -10 g tanks - might be sufficient - if you have them, they will work - you can also store water in salt buckets -RO unit - maybe bring to social tomorrow and someone can comment on it. is it new or used. If used, you may want to replace filters and ro membrane. -tank water- use RO if you can produce enough in the amount of time you want to start tank. You can use tap mixed with salt and declorinator if you want to cure rock. Just need to remember to drain most if not all the water after rock cycle cure so that you are ro is used once you add sand and put rock in final position. At least that is my opinion. - if you get uncured rock, then I would put rock in by self and let it cycle a few weeks. once it's testing without spikes, then drain 50% or so, pull rock, add in sand if you want, then replace rock; then top off with new ro - salt water mix. Allow to cycle another weeks or so. When you drain the 50% you can vac. up the detritus on bottom of tank. - sandstorm - I avoided a large amount by putting garbage bag on sand, poked holes, put plate on top, then poured water on plate; once full, pulled bags. Otherwise you have to decorate the rock in brail from sand storm tng - wave maker - just add on toy - if you have the extra cash burning hole in pocket go for it. Don't need it. Best price, subscribe to jeff's exotic fish website letter. seems like weekly special price is $99 for new one (Red sea) Test plumbing with fresh water before you add the salt. - testing - to start, i would do daily to every other day. for first month. Greetings to all aquarium enthusiasts! The Bali live rock we had last week is all but gone. There is one piece left but don't fret, if all goes well we plan to restock on Tuesday. What's New Have you been waiting for some impressive live rock? Well wait no longer, Marshall Island is back in stock! In the fish department we have the very cool, very rare Black Clown Gobies. Also a very cool Flame Cardinal fish arrived on Tuesday. There is also a beautiful extra large Niger Trigger available. Currently we have several very nice anemones including extra large Sebaes. For those of you who haven't seen the extra large Blue Linkia starfish, we still have two left, but these guys go fast so get your dibs in quickly. Any clam fans out there? Well we have Maximas, Croceas, a Hippopus, and even a Squamosa! What's on Sale Carib Sea Seafloor Special Grade aragonite sand in the 20lb bag is 20% off. For our Environmentally minded customers we have two pieces of Atlantic Aquaculture live rock left. The Aquaculture rock is fun because of all the fun extras you may find. I saw several small brain corals on one of the pieces. We are letting these last two completely cured pieces go for only $2.99 per pound. Via Aqua aquariums are all 15% off this weekend along with the Eclipse six and twelve gallon tanks. Maxi-Jet power heads will be 20% off. Visi-therm heaters will be 15% off. And if this wasn't enough sale for you than take 20% off Seaweed Selects Brown Algae! Did you know? Did you know that lack of water flow can be a big factor in slime algae growth? A good rule of thumb to go by is: circulate the entire volume of your tank ten to fifteen times an hour. Do you know how much flow you have in your aquarium? Lastly, we are aware of the tight parking situation and we do appreciate your willingness to deal with it. However, we do ask that you not park in the Reserved Loading Zone in front of the store, even for a moment. We receive numerous shipments throughout the week and haul a lot of heavy items for our service business and depend on having that space available. I was told that the new business park management is going to issue passes for loading zone parking and will ticket and tow those without passes. So that is all for now, enjoy your weekend and stop by and say Hi. Until next week Ta-Ta for now! -Kristen Lau The Marine Scene Assistant Manager Retail Sales 293 Sunset Park Drive Herndon, Virginia 20170 703.689.2815 www.marinescene.com If you no longer wish to receive this e-mail please reply to this message.

It's this weekend. See you there. -
Hi Again Craig, I was wondering how MACNA 16 awareness is in the DC area? As you probably know MACNA 16 is coming up in Boston on September 10-12. I wanted to make sure that you and your club members are aware that discounted full conference registration ($150) expires on March 31st. It's been all over the usual web sites but with DC being within a relatively short distance I wanted to make sure that WAMAS knew. This is going to be unlike any MACNA that anyone has been to. The Friday Night Harbor Dinner Cruise and Saturday Banquet inside the New England Aquarium alone are practically worth the price of admission. We've already sold more than 2/3 of our 100+ booths. We are planning to dedicate one booth to MASNA Member Organizations by having a few clubs set up small tanks (nano to 55g or so) in the booth with the livestock in them to be swapped at the end of the conference. If this is of interest to WAMAS please let me know. Anyway I won't harass you with a full-on ad. I just wanted to make sure nobody misses out. Regards, Rob Tess [nana]

I agree to respect host. However, if you have something to pass on to another club member, you are welcome to bring it to pass on (a prearranged deal). We just prefer that folks wait until spring meeting to bring lots of frags to trade if they don't have a prearranged deal. Thanks Craig

Thanks, I was leaning toward Reefmon's suggestion of getting the adjustable ac to dc converter. Now I just need to pick a fan with will work with it. I'll look at your site to see if I can find anything. I do have a atx power supply. Not so hip on hot-wiring it if I can get the adjustable ac/dc thingy. I already have the holes drilled for I guess a 92 mm / 31/2 inch fan. Thus, choice a would be to get some fan that size. Maybe ones I have would work if I get the power converter. As mentioned above, hotwired to wall outlet, they spun fast and made LOUD hight pitch roar - drive a fella nuts. I now use 4 inch clip on fan, but not sure that is sufficient once spring hits. Did last year, but last fall, I added 400w to middle of my 125 in place of a 250, so I have more heat this year gr

stealth fan High output fans are nice but they also produce tons of noise. This is the fan of choice if you are looking for a fan that does not sound like a jet airplane but still pushes a decent amount of air. These fans push more air and produce less noise than the competition. Specifications Dimensions: 92x92x25 mm Air flow: 28 CFM Fan speed: 1750 RPM Sound level: 20 dBA Bearing: Dual Ball Bearing It doesnt say if it's DC. Will it work. I would like to get 3.5 inch sice. I think 3 inche = 80 mm and 4 inch is 120. Could do 4 inch, but would have to drill bigger.

2nd review shows fan 1 is 2.5 inches - guess not that one.

fan 1 which fan? Fan 2 Fan 3

is is possible & SAFE to take a power supply from a computer and connect a computer fan to it and have it run the fan? Why I ask is in the past I took a 3.5 inch fan and wired it directly to wall outlet. However, the thing had so much power it operated at max speed and was too noisy. Would the regulated power supply slow the fan enough so it would be a dull roar similar to the speed it runs on a PC case? I just assembled a new pc at home. I have the old 350w power supply. Was thinking of taking it out of case and hooking fan up to try it. Was hoping some of you electrical wizards can chime in on safety of this idea. I sure don't want to burn the house down. [tr] Many thanks in advance Craig [beer2]

Greetings Aquarium Enthusiasts! What's New There are a few new items in the store worth mentioning. Red and Yellow Sea Fingers are back in stock, these are the brightly colored gorgonians with fluffy white polyps. A beautiful Majestic Angel a couple Powder Blue Tangs and a Niger Trigger arrived on Tuesday. Also back in stock are the fascinating Decorator Crabs; these guys decorate their bodies with pieces of their environment in order to blend in. We have a fun odd-ball fish from the Atlantic, it's called a Molly Miller Blenny. The Molly Miller is similar to a Lawnmower Blenny but has a little bit of red in his markings and a little red "mohawk" on his head. For all of you looking for the Custom Sealife Moonlights, we have found their replacements. Yes the rumor is true, Custom Sealife has gone out of business but no need to worry, we have started carrying the new Orbit light. The Orbit light is basically an upgraded version of the old Moonlight. We have two corals that I will call the coolest of the week. One is a yellow Devil's hand attached to a rock with a bright green brain coral on it. The other is a piece of Green and Pink Star Polyps with a few polyps of bright green Clove Polyps on it. They are basically two for one coral rocks; what a deal. What's on Sale EcoSpheres are now 50% off; Half off!. Ocean Nutrition flake food and seaweed strips are 20% off. Twelve, six and three gallon Eclipse tanks are 20% off. Our "Select" coral sale is in effect again this weekend, this time take $10.00 off any "Select" grade coral. Another great deal is the used 48" Moonlight we have in our garage sale section. The light is a 4x65 watt power compact fixture with four built in moonlights for night viewing, and two fans. This fixture is ideal for a standard 55,75 or 90 gallon aquarium and simply sits on the lip of the tank using stilt like supports. This light is $100 off at $224.99 and less than six months old. We also have a new 2x250 watt metal halide ReefStar pendant in the garage sale for only $704.99 ($50.00 off regular price). Have a fabulous weekend and happy aquarium keeping!
