  4. FYI - if the parking lot is full in front of the shop, then use the commuter lot across the street. Several hundred spots there. Party on
  5. Special Thanks to Tamie, Mike & the Zoo volunteer staff that helped with the event! [sorry, not got with names, but thanks for helping the members & children with touch tank. (Bob, Travis, Jamie ??)] Also, thanks to David & Art for working the door all night! Around 80 or more people came out! Another awesome event at the Zoo.
  6. PLEASE do not bring corals, live sand, or any other livestock items into the Invertebrate House Exhibit to sell, trade or exchange with other members. While I know there is a slim to none chance of contamination from someone bringing in livestock, we as a club do not want to abuse the privilege of having an event at the zoo and run the risk of something happening. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding! The Officers Thanks to another member for digging this up from an old post on 2006 zoo social.
  7. NOTE: END time will be at 8:30 instead of the 9:00 time that was sent out in email. The host staff has to get home to be back to work the next morning.
  8. see www.kenrockwell.com for reviews of nikon and cannon - or his recommendation page: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm NOTE: if you go with the D40, maybe even the 60 - they do NOT have the little drive pin which operates some of the older auto focus lenses. Thus, with the the D40 line, you need to use DX only lenses. I got a D70s refurbished from adorama for $525 + $39 for a 3 year warranty. * Chris - 143gadgets turned me on to kenrockwell
  9. just buy a good pair of PVC cutters that open / cut the largest PVC you need to cut. Most general purpose ones do 1.5 inches or less. Quick, easy, no mess of little fine shavings from saw.... I also would recommend replacing all of the bulkheads before you fill tank. Nothing like a new seal in a old tank to give you peace of mind.
  10. FYI - Sanjay used both acrylic and fiberglass rods. I can't remember which one worked better, but I think it was fiberglass. He used a cement paver as the base, then drilled the paver and his rock and inserted the rod and some type of cement to bond the rock stack. See here for start of his discussion on how he built the structure: Reef Central - Sanjay thread page 28 This photo from that thread (Sanjay's): updated with quote from Sanjay
  11. I agree with BB. I've run a ground probe on all of my tanks for years and have never had a problem with them.

  17. Hi Justin, Thanks for the link. A few of us from WAMAS will be at MACNA. Thanks for taking the time to post up a link on WAMAS forums. Always nice to have a prior speaker from one of our meetings visit us. Craig
  18. One week to go!
  19. At the rate I'm going, it will have to be at some TBD date after late September. Work and travel to crazy b/w now and MACNA weekend Sep. 4-7. Also need to chat with davelin or other Reston folk to pick a date to make it worth peeps time to come out this way. I don't keep zoa's so can't comment on them - idol and few other angels love them and ate the few I had long ago. I try to change 30 gallons ever 10-14 days and clean skimmer every 2-3 days. Idol's streamer - I believe that either the purple tang or the atlantic blue is the pro barber in the tank and will cut it off every few days. I guess they spent to much time in the military and believe in a high and tight hair cut.
