  1. What tyoes of corals are you planning on keeping? I just asked a similar question for my 93 cube, It seems 400w would be overkill for a mixed reef 250 would be better, or the evergrow D-120 LED is a good option.
  2. I ordered my tank today from aquarium one marine land frameless reef ready. I have an eheim 1260 return pump, and am thinking about a tunze 6095 for flow. Will 1 6095 be enough for a mixed tank?
  3. Hey Antonio, It,s good to see you're back. I sent you a pm. I have a few things to help get you started.
  4. I have been giving a lot of thought about flow. I want as little equipment showing in the tank as possible. I am leaning towards a closed loop with an oceans motions. I'm going to check out the evergrow soon and make my decision on lighting from there. I'm still buying all the equipment piece by piece for the build right now. It may take a little while to get everything I need but I will definitely start a build thread once things start moving forward with the build. Hopefully I will have water in it by the end of the year.
  5. this is similar to how I plan to build my tank into the wall but I will paint mine white to match the room decor... http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn278/swempire/Home%20Tanks%20-%20Fritz/93Gal/BuildStand6.jpg
  6. Congrats my daughter is 7 months. The tank has been great for calming her down she loves it. She's starting to get mobile so I need to childproof my tank.
  7. What ever grow would work best for my setup? Do I just need 1 d120?
  8. Thanks I will stop in at Erc an check them out soon. I've followed yhsublimes build it looks great in the pics.
  9. Yeah those are the ones. I'm in one of the new townhouses right at 355 and sprigg st.
  10. I will have to look into the ever grows and see how they look over someone's tank. @neto. Thanks for the offer. I will take you up on that after I get the tank in a few weeks. I would love to check out your tank too. I just moved to Urbana a few weeks ago over by the fire station on sprigg st.
  11. yeah that makes sense to me. I was also worried about extra heat from the 400W so I think 250 is the way to go plus it seems like there are a lot more bulb options for 250.
  12. I've been hearing good reviews about the hamilton cabo sun reflector, so I was thinking about going with that, but I'm open to suggestions. I'm hoping to only have the halide, but If I did decide to supplement I would probably go with led's.
  13. My plan is to frame the tank into a corner so it will be viewable from 2 sides. I won't have access from the back but it will be built into the corner, and framed in all the way up to the ceiling. I have already built the stand but need to skin it. I used the Rocketengineer design from reefcentral. equipment for the tank now. So far I have an eheim 1260 return pump, and Avast cs-1 skimmer. I'm Still trying to decide if I want to do a closed loop with an oceans motions or use tunze or vortech powerheads.
  14. I'm setting up a 93 cube and was wondering if I should get a 250W or 400w halide (will use 20k bulbs). the tank will be mostly lps, with some sps. Is a 400w overkill, and would I need a chiller?
  15. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with 36X36X22. Once I get moved to the new house I will order it., and get started.
  16. I was thinking about putting the overflow in the corner so it will make it a little closer. At least I will be able to access the tank from the front and one side so i think I should be OK . I plan to do a minimalist aquascape too with no rocks touching the glass, so that should help too.
  17. Looking at prices, it's not going to cost much more to go to 20 or 22 inches tall on the 36X36 tank instead of 18" I'm wondering if the reach would be too much if I go up to 22" I will be able to access the tank from the front and side so I'm thinking it shouldn't be too bad. Any thoughts?
  18. This is a tough decision... If I go with the 36X36 tank will I be able to add more fish since the area will be larger? The gallons are close to the same either way. Is the concern about adding more fish about the bio load or the actual the actual space for them to swim?
  19. After looking into lighting it seems that quite a few people have lit their 30X30 93 gallon cube tanks with a single Kessil led. I think by going to a 36" tank I would need to add a 2nd light, between that and the reach issues of the 36" tank I'm starting to lean towards the30X30X25 at this point.
  20. For lighting I'm really leaning towards kessils. The tank will be in a corner and viewable from 2 sides.
  21. I've thought about this option too. That would bring it up to 140g my only concern would be that it would add a considerable amount of extra weight. since it would be on the 2nd floor I'm afraid of going too heavy. Do you think 140g would be too much weight for a 2nd floor. It's a new house. I could also do 36x36 and a little taller than 18.
  22. I'm planning to have a tank built and am torn between sizes. They are both about 100g. 36x36x18 or 30x30x25 It will be a soft coral tank with minimalist aqua scraping.
  23. Thanks for the tips, I didn't realise that LED's were in my budget. Now all I have to do is figure out how I want to hang it
  24. It's been a while since I've been in the loop, and lighting seems to have changed a lot. I have a 16Gbowfront tank and am looking for inexpensive lighting so I can keep some low soft corals. I'm wondering if the Corallife t5 with 2 bulbs, will be enough. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+13822+23590&pcatid=23590 I also saw Odyssea has a t5 light with 4 bulbs but so cheap that it sounds too good to be true... http://www.aquatraders.com/20-inch-4x18W-T5-Aquarium-Light-Fixture-p/52302.htm Any other suggestions? I'm trying to stay under 100 if I can.
  25. Here's a paragraph from an article I read recently.... "One final interesting note is that because slime algae consume nitrates, often when aquarists perform nitrate tests, the readings come up as normal. Don't be deceived. If you were to remove the algae temporarily before putting into action any of the above solutions, in all likelihood you will see a rise in the nitrate levels in the aquarium. It's like a Catch 22. The nitrates have actually been there all along, but unreadable as the algae is feeding on it, therefore the nitrates appear to be in check. This applies to many other forms of algae as well!"
