  1. I switched to all led's my original lighting setup (pictured below) didn;t work out. The heat from the halide was too much for the led's and the anodizing burned on the heat sinks, luckily I caught it before anything serious happened. I have taken the led strips out of the halide fixture and added a 3rd strip of led's (6 blue/6 white). The color looks great and my corals seem to be responding very well. I also noticed a significant reduction in evaporation.
  2. Welcome!!! It's great to have another member in Frederick. I'm in Urbana.
  3. I just went from a 250 w halide with led actinic to all LEDs from rapid led. I love the look of LEDs they really bring the colors out and So far my corals seem to be responding well but I'm holding in to my halide until I see how it affects growth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. This looks like it's going to be a great setup. I can't wait to see how it turns out. You are going to love the cs-1. They are great skimmers.
  5. Welcome to the club and glad to see another rider among us. I ride a bmw r1100r that is being converted to a cafe racer. Someday we need to do a wamas fish store ride Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I've never tried this but at $90 it is much cheaper, and looks like it might do the job if you not doing high volume like a shop. http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-MS20-01-Moto-Saw-Variable-Compact/dp/B00AFELU6O
  7. Looks great. I love the aqua scape. As long as it's stable I wouldn't do anything to it.
  8. I did the rocket engineer stand on my 93 cube using all 2x4's it's very stable, and I'm happy with it. I had Saltlife build my doors and he did a great job for a very reasonable price. I would recommend using the coated weatherproof deck screws they should hold up to the salt and water better
  9. I bought a brass one at homedepot a few weeks ago that has the shutoffs. It was near the garden hoses Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I just noticed your aqueon led is most likely not enough light for your anemone. Keep an eye on it, you need a good light first. Look into the evergrows. A few other pieces of advice for your success. 1. Take your time. Nothing good in this hobby happens fast. At 7 weeks your tank is very new and needs time to stabilize. I would only have 2 small fish in there at the most at this point. 2. I wouldn't add any more fish to the 29, you are already pretty we'll stocked & if you plan on keeping corals i would think twice about keeping the coral beauty or any other angels. Not all of them will eat corals but it's a big gamble not to mention he needs a bigger tank. 2. Before you buy any fish or coral research it's care requirements (lighting flow, feeding, etc...) and make sure it's compatible with your other inhabitants. 3. Don't take fish stores advice without double checking. I'm embarrassed to admit this but 15 years ago when I started in this hobby I had a 20 gallon with sps and a clam under less light than you have along with 2 triggers an eel and a puffer. I bought all this stuff because the kid lfs that sold it to me said it was fine. This was my old 20g tank before it went to H-E-double hockey sticks, and the triggers went in and dropped sand all over my corals and I lost everything over the next few months.
  11. I would start with the refractometer and ato first. 1. Hydrometers can be off and you won't know unless you compare it to a refractometer from time to time. 2. An ato is more than just a convenience it will help avoid salinity swings which can be Stressful for the fish and corals. 3. Rodi I've bought or water and found some stores are not too good at replacing ther ro membranes and the water is not as good as you think. Be sure to one with a tds meter. I would just start buying everything else in any order when you find good deals. Just try to have everything before you move to the 75. I'm not a big fan of feeders personally and wouldn't use one daily and wouldn't even use it for vacation unless I had no choice. Feed a variety of frozen foods. They are much better than flakes. If you are only going out of town for a weekend feed before you leave and when you get back. Anything longer and you will want to get someone to tank sit. The exception would be if you keep sea horses or fish that need constant feeding.
  12. A few update pics. Added an om squirt to the return Saltlife built me some nice new doors. I put the new doors on and painted everything white. I didn't like the blue too much. I think it looks much better this way. I'll be working on the crown moulding and another coat of paint today. Then I can focus on stocking the tank.
  13. That's great I'm glad it worked. I learned that expensive lesson the hard way years ago.
  14. I got my doors today. I almost ordered from barker, but saltlife gave me a great price on the doors and I couldn't be happier. He does excellent work. I still need to do some touch up work, but I'm really happy with how it's turning out.
  15. That's how mine was too, the noise of the pump seems to be amplified through the pvc. I only replaced about 8" with clear hose and it made a huge difference.
  16. How is your pump plumbed? My return pump was very loud when it was plumbed with PVC so I replaced a section with some clear hose to reduce the vibration and it is silent now.
  17. How are your doors holding up to the moisture of the tank? Being MDF I'm curious about how long they will last.
  18. Are there any members who would be interested in making doors for my stand? I made some but I don't like them, and I don't have the tools to make something nicer.
  19. Thanks for all the compliments. I'm starting to see small spots of coralline on the rock, and glass now. I also noticing my corals are growing much faster than in my old tank. I suspect this is due to better lighting, and I have been feeding rods food, and reef roids as opposed to only feeding flake food before. I ordered the eheim 1262 volute to upgrade my return pump (Eheim 1260) from 600gph to 900gph and replaced my tunze 6045 with 3 maxijet 1200's for flow. Is that enough flow for a mixed reef? The tunze worked well, but I prefer not to see any equipment in the tank, and it was hard to hide. The
