  1. hmm if anyone has a good idea they actually want to work with let me know recent business school grad and already looking to get away from the corporate 9-6 world!
  2. Those pyramid butterflies haven't started picking at them yet, Rik? That is pretty amusing the pep shrimp got eaten! Predator/prey relationship isn't working the way its supposed to!
  3. lol beautiful fish. tank tour for whoever buys one!
  4. Could you explain how the 20k bulb that davelin has would cause the coral to turn green. It seems that they turned more green in your tank with less light, maybe due to more zooxanthellae needing to be present in order to perform photosynthesis at a high enough rate? Sorry if I am off on this, but its a very interesting subject. Joe
  5. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...cfm?pcatid=4856 The prices are the regular pricing. I can understand if there was a bad batch not using RC but it seems to me that I'd prefer the bonus of not having to worry as much about dosing, especially for $2!
  6. its only $2 more on DFS for a bucket and its not worth the extra? do you have a link to the thread?
  7. I am setting up a smaller system and was planning on putting together a DIY kalk dripper: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-06/nftt/index.php I figured if its only a gallon or 2 and dripping slowly it will not negatively affect the pH or anything. Any downsides to that method? Its only a few $ to build it and most smaller systems won't have the Ca requirements to need more expensive equipment anyways
  8. I agree, great meeting! Whens the next one?
  9. If you let me know how much that is I will probably take it at the meeting. I think I have a good handle on how to do it and can just bring the stuff home to do with a hose on it to keep it cool.
  10. Sounds good. Can I get the stuff from a Home Depot or something? BRK is a bit far away.. but maybe I can go there in the morning before the meeting on Saturday. All i need is my drill, the bulkhead and the correct size bit, correct? I don't care if it breaks the tank.. its from 1989 and I believe it cost my dad nothing when he got it originally haha. It is all a learning experience for me because I have almost zero experience with plumbing tanks and such.
  11. I grew up in Cleveland and we used to have a Sea World there. (No idea why they chose Cleveland!) I loved it, especially the big carp pond you could feed and the shark encounter! Used to have season passes but they Six Flags bought it and they got rid of everything :(
  12. I dunno I guess 1" or 1.5".. just for a refugium. Is that a normal size? I don't plan on having a pump more than like 600gph on it.
  13. Can anyone help me drill a tank at the meeting this Saturday? I don't have the experience or the equipment to do it! If I can't find someone this weekend or if people won't be at the meeting, I'd be happy to drive out to someone to do this. Thanks, Joe
  14. we have left it on in the garage multiple times.. thankfully theres a drain in the middle of the floor there. i think i will be getting a float valve in my new place or else the laundry room will flood at least once im sure
  15. very cool fish!! like it has been said, the grouper will eat anything that can fit in its mouth so careful with damsels! have a full-tank shot?
  16. 5,000! Congrats! Looks like only the 2nd person on the boards to get there? Maybe I will break into triple digits sometime. Being at work all day does help me increase my post count much more than I was when I first joined!
  17. I used liveaquaria and got some ideas from all over to make a CUC. I have heard good stuff about this place: http://www.ipsf.com/ They have some interesting products and I am planning on trying some out with my new tank and fuge
  18. nice looking rockwork. have a planned stocklist for it?
  19. amazing project.. i love the picture of you in the tank! having a small child to do cleaning is a big advantage of yours! haha
  20. that floating canopy is very cool. i have no where near the skills to build something of that caliber :(
  21. If anyone wants to join a WAMAS March Madness tournament group for fun, I set one up: http://games.espn.go.com/tcmen/frontpage Group Name: WAMAS Password: bball We could have a prize if someone wanted to donate something but at this point I just thought it'd be fun... plus I am addicted to making brackets! -Joe
  22. i think my brain is melted. now i remember why i went to business school!
  23. I have a retrofitted light I used for my planted freshwater tank. It is 2x36 Watt 6700K Compact Flourescant with individual reflectors that I installed into a 36" fixture. Does this have any use for corals or maybe a refugium? The kit is from AHSupply.com and the light output is impressive.
