  1. I know it's a lot to ask for people to help with a WAMAS project the day after a WAMAS meeting but I don't have a choice since the tank won't last much longer where it is. I really appreciate anyone who can spare some time to help but I certainly understand those who can't. Scott +1
  2. I'll be bringing my tank home on Sunday. I wanted to see what the best way to do it would be. It's the tank, stand, canopy. At least 100 lbs of live rock. Several fish, several corals, and some inverts. And then a ton of equipment. There's an Oceans Motions 4 way that's run by a Dart. There's a wavy seas that has an Eheim that returns the water from the sump, a skimmer, lights, an RO/DI, and a bunch of misc power heads and other random things. How should I get all that water, rocks, sand, and fish over? How much water should I keep? I believe my dad had all the perameters out of whack so I'm nervous about making new water and killing things since there used to whatever they're in. Or does that not make sense. It seems like I have to do it all fairly quick as to not kill everything. I don't think I'll have time to make a bunch of trips. What would be the best plan? Thanks
  3. Here are some. http://www.costco.com/Common/Category.aspx...&lang=en-US I thought you said generator. Sorry.
  4. Everything is confirmed now that my dad is going to give me his 92 corner and just about everything that goes along with it. The only thing he wants to keep is his AC3. It's currently setup in Potomac and is moving to Silver Spring. For some reason the RODI is off and the ATO is off so I need to get it moved pretty soon since my dad is not taking care of it really. I'd like to make the move Sunday. I know my dad is not going to help move it so I need help. Anyone that can help with either the whole move or one end of the move would be much appreciated. I don't have much to offer anyone but I can certainly return the favor in the future. My parents house is near Falls Rd and Wootton Parkway in Potomac. It's right behind Hadley Park for anyone who knows the area. The tank will be going to my house which is basically at New Hampshire and Randolph. Right off Fairland. Thanks.
  5. I think it's actually a 54 corner. I said 92 but now I'm confused. Steve? It's 54 right?
  6. That's what I was leaning towards. Happy Wife=Happy Life
  7. Is there any safe way to have a reef on nice hardwood floors. In my parents basement, the pergo type floors were buckled and the wall was messed up where I had my old tank. Now that I have my own house I'm not trying to ruin it (not that I tried to ruin there house). I ruined there Pergo which is more durable than hard wood. Is there a sure way or should I just have my tank in the basement. That's where my wife wants it. She liked my old tank but doesn't want it to ruin the house. I wouldn't have to be quite as careful down there.
  8. Mine is hooked up exactly how Sikryd's is hooked up. The only diffference is that mine allows more breakers to be hooked up. I'll take a picture soon.
  9. I actually got it from Home Depot. It was $200. I think it's called EmerGen. I hooked it up myself in half a day. I also bought a box that's mounted to the outside of the house. The wire from the transfer switch is connected to the inside of that box and then I just have to plug a cable to the outside of the box and run it to the generator. It allows 4 x 20 watt breakers and 6 x 15 watt breakers. I hope that makes sense.
  10. Silver Spring. Near New Hampshire and Randolph.
  11. I have a 13,000 watt Briggs and Stratton portable generator and a manual transfer switch that I installed so i can run 10 of my breakers off the generator instead of running extension cords. My 10 breakers that I selected use up a very small percentage of 13,000 watts so I could still run a few extension cords if I wanted to I guess.
  12. I thought the pump on the Deltech was something that had to do with a Bee. Maybe a Bee or Bumble Bee or maybe I'm just crazy. That's what I thought but I'll know for sure when I go over there. Whatever is on there is what I'm keeping on there. At least for now. That's what the wife agreed on. My dad told me today that he's ok with giving me the whole setup. I'm pretty excited. I'm not sure what' still alive other than algae in it but I know that he has all the equipment to get me started. I hope there's at least a fish or something. I'm really going to need some help moving it but I'll start a new thread in the next few days for that. Do many members look in this non-member section still? Can't remember. This guest membership is all I can afford $0 so it'll have to do. Anyways, thanks for all the info. I'm really excited to be back.
  13. Thanks. I guess that's better than expected. I was thinking the RODI waste would be more of a factor. That was a much better answer than I expected.
  14. I'm guessing that some of you remember me. I had some tough times with my 180 reef crashing and then had to have back surgery twice so I opted to get out for a while. Now that things have settled down, I'm thinking about coming back. There are a few things I need to figure out prior to making my decision (decision = convincing my wife). When I had my 180, we lived in my parents basement apartment. I actually had no clue how much my aquarium hobby/habit was costing them. I never asked and they never told. My dad has a 92 corner that he bought from SteveOutlaw a few years ago that I'm thinking about trying to get from him. My wife and I bought our own house since I've been gone. The main consideration is how much it'll cost us to run. I'll list what it has to see if anyone can give me a realistic idea of monthly costs for utilities. Not including dosing, fish food, and that type of thing. 92 corner 1 x 250 watt MH light Deltec skimmer- I don't remember the model but he bought from Steve with the tank RO/DI (I think from The Filter Guys) 5 stage I believe Oceans Motions 4 way Wavy Sea wavemaker Neptune AC3 Some sort of ATO small sump (maybe 10 or 20 gallons) whatever steve had I can't remember much else. The only other piece of info that may be important is that I run a dehumidifier in the basement where the tank will be so I'm sure I'll have some significant evaporation. I know that I won't get exact costs so I'm just looking for a ballpark. I'm not going to be running a kalk stirrer or any reactors for now. Just the things I listed and some usual Koralia maybe a heater. Thanks for reading. I've missed my tanks and WAMAS way too much.
  15. Thanks so much to everyone. I know my surgery will go well and I'll be back in as soon as I can. I may need to get a nano just to keep my spirits up while I'm recovering.
  16. I've sold everything I have. I'm out for now but I will certainly be back. I'm having a pretty major back surgery on Thursday at Washington Hospital Center. I'll be in good hands. I wanted to thank everyone that I've met and some that I've become friends with since I've joined. I'll still be on here even though I don't have a tank right now just because I like the people. This is a great club with great people and I will certainly be back in the hobby once I'm a little better. Thanks again. Scott
  17. Nobody called so they worked it out alone.
  18. Colin and his friend came to my house to pick up the 180 that he's buying and really need help. Is there anyone that lives near the Falls rd Exit of 270 that can come by with in a half hour or so and help. I'm having major back surgey in 12 days and can't help at all. Sorry for the late notice. They went to go rent a dolly from Home Depot. Call my cell if you can come help. 202-329-3782 Scott
  19. That's a great reference. That is the tank. He was just really busy before with extra classes to teach but is now back to normal. I think having it redone will spark him to keep it nice. I will also recommend a rabit fish.
  20. The back continues to decline which is why I'm pushing to sell off my setup as soon as possible. Thanks for the info. Would a regular toothbrush work for scrubbing?
  21. I think the problem is my dad's lazyness/being busy that's causing the problem. I'm not sure I can fix that problem. I think we'll scrub them.
  22. My dad has a tank that he set up around last Christmas. He put the rocks and fish in and never really did anything else because he was too busy with some things that came up. He's been wanting to redo the tank so for Father's Day I wanted to give him a "we'll help you redo your tank" gift certificate. The rocks and glass are covered in algae. It's kind of a stringy algae. I assume the first thing would be to pull out all the rocks and scrape the glass. Next would be a HUGE water change. I'm not sure if anything is still alive. It may be better to change all the water. I'm not sure. I want to know what to do about the rocks. Is there any way to get rid of this algae? Close them in a dark tub for a month? Do they have to be manually scrubbed? Thanks.
  23. Where did you get this coral?
  24. I had a heater explode in my sump. Nothing crashed on to it. It was a defective item. I'm not sure what the name is so if someone from Aquarium One recognizes this and can pm me, I'll edit and add the name.
