Here's a pic of the ones I made a few years ago. I'm sure there are plenty of people who do this. I just figured I'd bring it up as another idea. Depends on where you want to put them though.

I just read again and saw that you mentioned having plenty of eggcrate but it still may be useful for anyone else looking for where to buy it cheap.
-
Not to confuse things but I just thought I'd put out another option. This option isn't one that mounts to glass but looks more natural. I wanted something for my tank a few years ago so I went out and bought a few really flat pieces of live rock from one of our local retailers and drilled about 20 1/2 " or 5/8" holes in it. Works great. I have them still. And it looks better than frag racks. If you go the eggcrate route, you can just get the stuff cheap at home depot in 2'x4' sheets. It's made to go over office lights so their the same dimensions as a drop ceiling tile.

Discretekarma's 92 Corner
discretekarma replied to discretekarma's topic in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
Over the last week I took apart my WavySea and was able to get it working and I also was able to get the OM4 working. I took it apart one last time, lightly sanded the drum, put it back together and turned down the ball valve after the Dart and it worked. Should be fine until I get a different version drum. -
I have a decent DSLR setup (Canon 40D with Speedlite 580EX II, BG E2N battery grip, 28-135 IS Canon lens, and 70-300 IS canon lens). I can take decent pics with this but not of my tank to save my life. I need help figuring out the settings and conditions that work best (camera settings, tank lights on, flash on/off, background room lights on/off, etc...). I don't have a macro lens at the moment but am hoping I can work with what I have. Thanks

Good Point. It's quite a small motor. I oiled it sparingly and let it sit out of the housing for a whle so that any oil that wanted to run out would do so on a paper towel and not in to the housing or in to the tank.
-
That's right, mine is. Thanks to some encouragement by Justin, I took it completely apart and found that the small motor inside was seized up. With some help from WD40 and pliers, I was able to get it going again. One wavemaker fixed. One OM4 to go. For anyone with a Wavysea that stopped turning, I'd recommend taking it apart and spending some time trying to get the motor going before buying a new motor or wavemaker. There isn't really any information on the internet about this or provided by the retailers/manufacturer but it's worth the time to try.

Discretekarma's 92 Corner
discretekarma replied to discretekarma's topic in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
I have 1 x 250 watt MH for now. I will be adding actinics. The OM4 never did work right so for now I have it running with the drum out. Basically the splitter we talked about. Once I'm able to get a Version 2 or 3 drum I'll give it a try again. -
As most of you know, I rescued a 92 corner from my dad's last weekend. There was very little that was alive and most of the equipment doesn't work. I did some aquascaping today. It looks pretty good in person but the pics didn't come out so well. Right now there isn't much in there. Not much made it alive so it's a Pink and Blue Gobie, a cleaner shrimp, a starfish (maybe a Serpent Starfish), and maybe an anemone (RBTA), and a Frogspawn that's barely holding on. Ther stack of rocks in the back with the huge overhang is from my old tank. Justin drilled that stack. Here's a few pics. 2 years ago

We still have power here in Silver Spring.

In this area, it's not the snow that we worry about. It's everyone's reaction to the snow.
-
Great post. I knew there was going to snow but I didn't know there was a potential for a major storm. Better to be safe than sorry. I'll be filling up the gas cans tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.

I will try your suggestion of contacting the vendor. This is the history. My dad bought it with me a little less than two years ago. We hooked it up to his 92 gallon corner (which I now have) and within a day he told me it was clicking. He said he called oceans motions and they said there may be sand in it. He really doesn't like to do things so he just unplugged the oceans motions and Dart. He continued to use the sump and WavySea. We bought it as a "new" item almost two years ago and and the item currently five years old. Three of those years we most likely spent on a shelf somewhere but that's just a guess. I hope that is clear.
-
For me, the biggest issue isn't that it's five years old, it isn't that I have to turn the flow down on the ball valve, it's that it locks up after one rotation. A $400 splitter seems like a waste to me.
-
I have a ball valve in the 2" pvc prior to the Dart, a 1.5" ball valve in the pvc between the Dart and OM4 and 4 x 1" ball valves on each of the 4 pvc pipes going from the OM4 to the tank. I put it all back together and reduced the ball valve between the Dart and OM4 to about half way and it was locked back up in about 1 revolution. I was hoping that sanding and cleaning the drum as well as running the OM4 with no drum would have flushed anything out. What now?
-
When I say without the drum, I mean to put the black lid on the body with no drum or magnet inside and not even put the motor on. This is one option that the guy from Oceans Motion gave me. I'd rather not put a bypass on the plumbing to the oceans motion since I'd have to replumb it for that but can I just partially close the ball valve between the Dart and the Oceans Motion? Is that what you're saying regarding the Dart being flow bias and not pressure bias? I'm pretty frustrated that my dad and I bought a three year old OM4 and a Dart to go with it based on the store's recommendation.

I want to explain my setup and the issues I'm having and hopefully get a solution. I have the 92 corner with a WavySea that is has water pumped through it from the sump through a Eheim 1262. I also have an Oceans Motion 4 way that goes in to 4 drilled holes in the back/lower section of the tank and there are two overflows for the closed loop system about 8-12" above the returns. There is 3/4" locline on the four returns. The oceans motions is fed by a Dart. Here's the problem. The drum in the oceans motion was stuck and making a clicking sound so I called Oceans Motion. The guy I spoke with walked me through opening it up and cleaning it out. He had me describe the drum (which is a version 1 with one oval hole) and read him the numbers on the motor. He asked when we bought it and I explained it was close to two years ago. When I read him the numbers he told me I bought it five years ago. I insisted this was incorrect but he would not believe that I was sold the 4 way two years ago and that it had been sitting on the shelf or wherever in this store for two to three years prior to me buying it. He told me to buy a new drum which I can't do right now. He explained the issue with the drum is that there is way more water coming in through the dart and into the OM4 than can pass through the one oval opening. So now what? Also, why is there this issue with the unit being five years old but only purchased less than two years ago. I'm not planning on saying where I bought it as I do not want this thread to be a knock on a LFS. I just want to know what the best solution would be for now. Run it with no drum or run it with the drum that I have until I can afford one with two holes? Thanks

I know that the live rocks can be brought over with just wet newspaper on them. A few of them have corals that have grown right on to the live rocks. The only ones I can think of are GSP, Brownish Digi, and Zoas. Will it still be ok to jusy have wet newspaper on them? They'll be out of water for about 30 minutes if I do it that way.

I'm thrilled. I never wanted to get out but I was sort of forced to do so. I didn't think I would be able to get back in any time soon and then my dad offered me a complete setup. He'll be keeping the AC3 for some reason so I'm not too worried about that probe. Very Excited.
-
It's my dad's AC3 that said 4.17. I'm sure it either needs to be recalilbrated as you said or it's covered in algae or on the floor somewhere. That's good. I'm making new water already and I'll bring the rocks over on Sunday morning.
-
Here's where I'm at so far. Based on Davelin and Origami's recommendation, I will making new water. I went to my parent's house today and picked up the RO/DI and some other things. I saw that there are several things still living in there. Some good and some bad. I also checked the salinity which was at 1.018. The temp was at 79 and the PH was the shocking part. It's at 4.17. How could anything live in there. There is an RBTA that almost completely white with a few spots with a pinkish color and there is also some corals (GSP, frogspawn, and some polyps that I saw). There's a Royal Gramma, Pink and Blue Goby, Pajama Cardinal, and a Clown. The RBTA wasn't moving which worried me. I had an RBDA die once and it turned in to muck and algae or something which makes me think this RBTA might be holding on but I really have no idea. The rocks are completly covered in algae. Some stringy green and some brown slime. Some of the corals that are there are on the rocks and not on plugs. Should I still move all that mess in to the new tank or should I come up with a new plan. I'd rather not lose the corals that are there which is why I'm shying away from cooking the rocks. What should I do? If I am going to be using the rocks without cooking them, should I bring them over tomorrow and put them in the tubs of water that I'll be making tonight? That would be a little less to do on Sunday.

I think two bodies are ok. I just don't know if I can get enough over in one trip with an Escape (since I don't have a pickup) and a mini van (Charlie's). Anyone have a pickup that can drive the water and rocks over?
-
I'm up for any time I can get help. Charlie is going to be over there at noonish. I can be over there any time that help can be there. We can either all plan to start at noon or we can get started before that and Charlie can jump in when he gets there.

I have a 150 gallon rubbermaid container. Should I put it in the back of my Escape (if it fits) and put all the rocks and pump the water in to it? Could I put fish in buckets and/or tubs with just water and move them seperately? My dad mentioned something about cleaning sand out of the OM4 before starting it up. What is that all about?

Potomac to Silver Spring. 10ish miles down montrose/randolph basically.
