Yep, I had the same issue after running my typhoon 3 (but it had been running for years). I called them and was told it has to do with build up in the ASOV. You can either open it up, clean it with a flat head screw driver and reassemble (May do the trick, or order a new ASOV for $20. But that is definitely what it is. Any thoughts from reefers who have used fixtures they live would be appreciated. On the high end are the AI Hydras and Kessils worth they money? How do they compare and hold up over time? What would be other some other recommendations? Open to all considerations. I do like the option to mount on a bracket and leave my ceiling alone on this next build. My sps grow great and color well under LED. Pros: cheap power cost and no bulb replacement cost. Cons: more algae growth on glass, needs regular cleaning the keep looking pristine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Recently began losing a 10 year old sand sifting star; I should say minimum of 10 years because that's how long I've had him. This week I noticed his arms undergoing necrosis like sea star wasting disease in the wild. Has anyone noticed this in stars in captivity? Is this simply how very old stars waste away? In the case of filter feeders such as these or sponges, it's not necessarily a bad thing to get some tagalongs with your rock work, correct? All they can do is assist in removing nutrients from the water, correct? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As far as stores the above would be my local go to. King of corals always has a sale and good frags, marine scene is quality but pricey. Also note there are a lot of people on here who will sell you good frags at great prices. Just because it has worked elsewhere doesn't make it a good idea. Much more likely to end up with hair and other algae problems in the first year because you are starting with an extremely high mineral content as compared to RO water. After seeing what the filter cartridges look like after our "clean" local water runs through it I won't even drink the stuff, let alone have my corals living in it. Me too. What's interesting is my brother in law used to always get on me claiming tropic Marin was superior. According to this chart TM is below IO in all of the big three which makes me wonder what else are the big considerations or value adds? Zero I guess as far as the target. I tested both at zero and can't fathom trying to keep it higher and consistent regardless of the outcome. Just seems easiest to keep it at 0 so that's where I'll stay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've been using those timers for about a decade now and you may have to adjust the time every couple months to get it back accurate (will get off a few minutes) but they will last forever. So for many years I've been using the following: Alk: Kent marine super buffer DKh Calcium & Magnesium: Brightwell Aquatics The kent marine buffer works great and I've honestly had good result with every calcium supplement I've used. But of late I've struggled to keep my mag up. I don't know if I need to mix my solution stronger or maybe try a different product cause it seems my small but plentiful sps frags must be eating up the magnesium. I do 10% weekly water changes with IO. So what i would like to know is anyone's preferred supplements in general, for mag, and if possible why. Also, do you does anything besides the big 3? I know the old rule of testing, but just wondering if anyone has any other trace elements they find to be beneficial with small weekly water changes. Thanks for the thoughts. This is a good topic. Like you my sps are the focus but when i keep it "too clean" my zoa rocks seem to stand still in growth. And honestly those are two tests I haven't done in a while because everything seems happy which I guess puts me in the "who cares" club of recent.
