  1. No pics yet. Basically, I clamped the float switch assembly to the hood crossbar in one corner, and routed the ATO supply line in through the other back corner, using 1/4" quick connects. As the supply line sits above the water line, to prevent siphoning, you only really notice the float switch, in the snail guard. Behind the scenes you can use any type or size of reservoir for the RO\DI water. It took me two trips to Radio Shack to find the right relay, because Radio Shack sucks.
  2. hey grav - what are the specs on that tank, lighting, etc?
  3. Welcome! I have the same skimmer and love it. Let me know if I can shoot you some pics of the gate valve mod. jp
  4. that might be the funniest thing I've seen on WAMAS, counting Dandy singing 'lickin the zoas, lickin the zoas', which coincidentally is my favorite Judas Priest song.
  5. I call these pallys 'the devil's colon'.
  6. I'll never understand the whole zoa naming and pricing voodoo, or $200 for a polyp. Does that come with a lapdance?
  7. reminds me of the time I was doing a bunch of small pvc glue ups and lef the caps off of the primer and glue cans. I got pretty loopy, but just had another margarita and forgot about it.
  8. Probably right on with your assessment of the store owner, and the corals are terrible and equipment is overpriced. But, I have had awesome success wtih their fish and inverts though, and I can't say that about other LFS's I've used. I don't think reefing is viewed as profitable enough for them to go the extra mile, more along the lines of a turn em and burn em fish store. FWIW. jp
  9. How about a stomatella on my CL intake. Backend of a strombus Hermit emergency And nudibrach I think. Enjoy, jp
  10. I think it's fine just the way it is. Just spray paint Jason Lives on it and add three coats of shellac. Also, last night I finished my nano hood with integrated ATO, not sure if you have room to add ATO to the project scope.

I don't know about 'slime', are you using RO\DI water? Mexican turbo snails love brown algae - do you have a cleanup crew?
  12. and here's what it's done to the corner nearest the eductor.
  13. jn - yes, I have a DSB now on top of the eggcrate. It's there to keep rocks or anything from hitting the glass bottom, now and during the build. jp omg I am a starfish. Is there a post count where I can change that?
  14. When is laundry day?
  15. Jason - it doesn't suck in any air, that's the beauty. I only see it moving water and the occasional large air bubble. My water is very clear now in fact, I think it is helping clear up the organics in my water by increasing the surface agitation. The rocks have a big piece of plastic coat hanger running through them and have light pieces on top of a huge base - they aren't going anywhere.
  16. Nice panels - that's the way to go! Bummer about the cracked glass. jp
  17. http://www.nciweb.net/tank.htm Basically, by shooting water past an opening, you draw that water in and along with it - hence the 'one gallon in, five gallons out'. It's kind of the same physics that makes some bubble silencing contraptions draw in air and makes things worse than before. I am anti-powerhead, so this maximizes the flow in the tank while keeping the return dialed back. I have it attached to a SeaSwirl and did nothing other than replace the outlet. It's already dug out one corner about an inch. jp
  18. I plumbed mine into one of the external spigot lines, at the very end. I run the hose to the pool and then fire everything up, but it could just as easily be directed to flowerbeds or whatever. HTH jp LMAO - Yauger, I even painted these pipes black. I was so restless back then waiting for the tank to get set up. jp
  19. unreal Dan - looks awesome. So that's what those blue eyed cardinals look like? Sweet. jp
  20. Completed the build last night, after finally getting out to Lowes for the parts. Home Depot sucks. I started with the threads on RC - http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...ghlight=eductor and quickly realized that this was way to big and heavy for my SeaSwirl return. So once I had the parts together I made some adjustments that made the overall length and weight less, but still allowing the jetting to work. After researching commercial eductors I thought the origional design was too long anyways. Looks like a maxijet mod I have in a box somewhere. Yauger - yes I painted it black last night. Realistically, what I had before on the Sea Swirl was a 3/4" MT to 1" hosebarb fitting, so probably wasn't all that efficient, but - this think is awesome. My Neon GSP on the opposite side of the tank is standing stright up, and I see sand everywhere moving around. All without changing the flow volume. I'll watch it later today when lighting comes on, and see just how conspicous this is but so far I am digging it. jp
  21. where are the updates?
  22. sorry Rebecca . . . I shouldn't have piled on. jp
  23. lmao - this thread never had a chance.
  24. Zoas can be out of the water for a while during low tide, I don't think you can kill them. My pally rock was out about 30 minutes while I picked and fragged at it. The problem is that the sponge becomes invisible and clings to the rock when out of the water so I had no clue if I was getting it or not. I know how I can fix this: 1. Distract the wife while I spend another $100 on LR. 2. Pull out that big pally rock and shatter it into smaller pieces I can manage. 3. Pick apart or toss the ones that have the sponge on them. 4. Fill in the aquascaping with the new LR! jp
  25. The longest I ever let it go is in this FTS, lower right in the pallys, and it looked pretty cool but was building up a lot of mass at the base, and curling around some of the larger stalks. I would like to have it gone. jp
