GOSKN5 September 29, 2018 September 29, 2018 So I have some zoas that have grown well and are spreading. I would like to drag a few to grow out on plugs... Anyone have some tips for cutting them in the tank? Say I want to cut 2 or 3 polyps from a colony? Thanks! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
epleeds September 29, 2018 September 29, 2018 Just use some bone cutters and cut them off the rock. Just make sure there is a little bit of Rock underneath to glue down

Just make sure there is a little bit of Rock underneath to glue downI would like for that to be possible.. but they are on a branching type rock.. it's pretty thin and I don't think I can cut under it... waa hopeful a razor blade could maybe cut a few polyps? Maybe best to leave alone, but they are some higher end ones that I would love to sell a few... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
WheresTheReef September 29, 2018 September 29, 2018 You could try to pry them off the rocks with a razor blade and cut a string of them off together. They typically come off pretty easily once you get one off. I've done it with zoas and a few palys, but always a little paranoid that they would release palytoxin. So far no issues. It helps to have fragging tweezers to make sure they don't blow away because they are difficult to find in the tank.
hlem September 29, 2018 September 29, 2018 what I've done before is to put some rubble rock directly ontop of the colony, it will eventually grow onto it, and then simply razor blade around the rubble rock.
BtmDweller September 29, 2018 September 29, 2018 Razor or lay the rubble/plugs on them. I also found a tiny pair of scissors about two inches long from the makeup aisle. The blades are super thin. Recommend caution fragging in the tank if they small pieces get loose and start growing from a crevice somewhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
treesprite September 29, 2018 September 29, 2018 I just use a razor blade, lift one end and pull up the amount I want, then cut the tissue with the blade to detatch from the colony. Try not to cut the polyps themselves.
