Squishie89 April 2, 2017 April 2, 2017 Have you guys seen this?http://smarterreefs.com/ It is really *cool! (I am sure not as cool as what Justin was working on)I don't really need it right now, but I may get it in the future. *- Pun not intended
Origami April 2, 2017 April 2, 2017 Great approach. Different than other approaches in that it requires daily maintenance, but it's simple and, as a consequence, economical. Sent from my Tablet
arking_mark April 2, 2017 April 2, 2017 I kinda feel like I could build this myself with an insulated container and a drill. Making the popsicle sticks is a no brainer.
AlanM April 2, 2017 April 2, 2017 I saw it at MACNA San Diego. It looked pretty nice, and seems like a great idea. I can't quite get over the price of it, but I realize it costs that much for a bit of plastic because he's not manufacturing a million of them. When I have anthias and other things in the tank that like to eat all day I will probably get one.
arking_mark April 2, 2017 April 2, 2017 Alan- You pay for materials and I'll build one for you at a fraction of the cost.
treesprite April 3, 2017 April 3, 2017 (edited) I'm always in a rush before work, I wouldn't have time to do all that assembly. Edited April 3, 2017 by treesprite
Origami April 3, 2017 April 3, 2017 Bummer. The link isn't working for me this morning. Here's Google's cached data from the site: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Os2nyi6CcxsJ:smarterreefs.com/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us
AlanM April 3, 2017 April 3, 2017 He doesn't actually use an insulated container. You fill an outer container with water and freeze it overnight. Then you mix fish food with water in the silicone popsicle stick molds and freeze them to use throughout the week. I think the idea is that the outer frozen container, which looks like a double-walled pint glass, keeps the popsicle inside cold enough throughout the day to take a good 8-9 hours to melt fully. I assume he tried a variety of materials and configurations until he got one that worked with the right thaw parameters.
arking_mark April 3, 2017 April 3, 2017 I still think this is an easy DIY contraption. I can think of several ways to make this work.
Squishie89 April 4, 2017 Author April 4, 2017 And IMO for how expensive things can be in this hobby, this is pretty inexpensive. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
