Right now I feed my fish in the morning and run the lights from 7:30am - 9:00pm, but I will begin to move the lights to an 11am - 10:30pm schedule.

I will want an auto-feeder to provide a feeding arounf noon each day.

Also, I will want one that can feed the tank for 5-6 days if I take a vacation.

Does anyone have a feeder that they think is great? Thanks for your help!

I sell and use the Ehiem ones, digital can feed multiple times a day with varying amounts.

I have them for $ 59.95

I use an auto feeder off and on...It's sort of like playing rulet though....can either work great or set you up for disaster.

The one that I have had the best luck (flake food only) with the Hydor

I used a cheap Petsmart feeder for about a week once when I went away and the flake food I put in it got clumped together from the moisture around the tank. The next time I used Hikari pellets and did not have a problem.

Whatever you use try to test it for a few days before you go out of town.

I'll never go near one of those things again.

I tried one once when I was away for a week. It malfunctioned,

fed my fish in the middle of the night for 3 days. Food rotted, fish

died.

Better to get someone to feed them. You only need someoneone to come by

once every other day or so.

I've heard only good things about the Eheim feeders. Their other products are so bullet-proof and well-engineered that I think I'll go with one from BRK. BRK because they're great. Not to start another post-off competition, but I was at Petsmart or Petco or whatever the heck it is the other day and they had 7 purple tangs in a 20 gallon--all dying of ich. And they were selling them for $75 each. Do you really want to support that place? Every dollar you give them allows them to do more of that. Every dollar you give BRK allows them to bring us more great stuff and support the club! Anyone else notice the Sequence pump they donated along with the T5 retro kits and who even knows what else?! That's why I'll drive to Manassas.

I've used one of the Eheim auto feeders for years, and it works great. I modified mine so it works off an X10 module, which means I can program my Aquacontroller to activate the dispensing of food AFTER the AQ turns off the main return pump. No more food going down the overflow. Twice a day it feeds a combination of form2 flakes, reef flakes, dried cyclopeeze, and shredded nori. And like others have said, try your new feeder out for a few days before you go away to make sure it's dispensing the way you want.

Happy reefing,

Jon
