WishNewFish November 21, 2016 November 21, 2016 (edited) Hi all, I am planning to move my home and I have 1 sm yellow tang, 1 sm blue tang , 2 clown fish, 1 fire shrimp and 2 sand conch snails. I am planning to break down the current tank and set up a new 40 gallon tank with cycled/live rock and move the livestock to the new tank. any idea if they will survive this? The move is just 1 hr away. Are there anythings to consider or tip to make it practical so they survive for sure. Will initial 5 gallon water change every 3 days help with the spike in nitrogen cycle? This will be a temporary holding tank for a month until I setup a new tank and move them slowly into the new aquarium. thanks Edited November 21, 2016 by WishNewFish
treesprite November 21, 2016 November 21, 2016 If you are using enough already cycled liverock, you can use all new water and will be fine. You could use a bacteria additive if you like. There are different ones, but I use Biodigest.
ReefAddict November 21, 2016 November 21, 2016 I would think they would be fine. If you are using your old live rock I wouldn't think you would get much if any cycle. A battery operated air stone will help and a heater to keep the temp stable will help keep stress down while transporting.
Origami November 21, 2016 November 21, 2016 If the fish are in transit for only an hour, you can probably just bag them up and transport them to the new site for acclimation. Given that the system at the other end is set up and stocked with live rock, it should be a smooth and easy transfer.
