Paul'sReef September 21, 2014 Share September 21, 2014 Does anyone automatically dose Mg? I've been trying to automate as much as possible and figured a sustained replenishment may be good. Experiences / Thoughts?
epleeds September 21, 2014 Share September 21, 2014 I do 30ml a day. My tank sucks it down

Paul'sReef September 22, 2014 Author Share September 22, 2014 Yeah, I dose weekly but can't seem to keep up...time to get another doser.
Decadence September 22, 2014 Share September 22, 2014 I am around 30ml as well per the BRS recipe. I also dose 10ml daily of thrive potassium as I carbon dose and don't change much water so it drops quickly as well.
mogurnda September 22, 2014 Share September 22, 2014 I throw a small bag of dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2)into my Ca reactor along with the regular medium. Does the trick.
Ryan S September 22, 2014 Share September 22, 2014 BRS instructions state you can toss the entire dosage of mag in at once, when your calc and alk are gone. that's all i ever did. if this works, why would you want/need to dose it daily?

Magnesium instability can cause alk instability. For tanks with high consumption, topping off a jug every few months is much easier than measuring and dosing every week. If you're seeing that high of a mag consumption you're probably already using a calcium reactor. If you're dosing two part, it's basically when you refill your jugs.... FWIW, this is the method I use.
gmerek2 September 22, 2014 Share September 22, 2014 Just make sure your tanks consumption needs it. I dose cal and alk but water changes is enough to replenish Mg. I test for it once ammonth and can make an adjustment if it actually needs it.

zygote2k September 23, 2014 Share September 23, 2014 I dose 45 ml/ day of alk and ca and use a quart of Mg per week. Any more and it starts to mess with the alk.
