Hi Folks,

Just wondering if the membership had any ideas here. I bought a decent sized frag of mystic montipora from another member back in January. It grows wherever I put it, but refuses to color up for me. It has always had this faded dull look to it. I have tried moving it to low light, high light, etc. Just doesn't seem to wait to color up at all.

FWIW the other montis in my tank look great.

In my experience it takes a bit to acclimate to new tanks. They look the best under MH, then T5 and finally LED.

I have mine in multiple spots in my tank and it likes good light and good flow. But it has taken a long time to get the best coloration

No issues with mine, high flow, VERY high light. LED for me. It's grown significantly. I left it alone as soon as I got it, perhaps just giving it some time? Just my experience.

If that is the one also called superman mine is in medium light and flow. It took 6 months to do much. Now it is entrusting well and looks nice. I agree with the give it time sentiment.

Ryan, I have my dremel back.  Come by and I will slice you a piece. lmk.

I find it easier to start with a healthy frag than to bring back one on the verge.

Agreed. I'll take you up on that

You need to scrap your tank and start over with gold fish, colored gravel and a treasure chest.

Ryan, only do this if you guaranteed want TOTM again!

Shut it!

This piece was light acclimated properly as it was started on the bottom. I think montis get very upset when they get cut, and lose a lot of color. More upset than most SPS, and evidently take a long time to color back up.

Check your water chemistry....esp alkalinity...ive seen some really drab colors out of montis with low and unstable alk.
