Flieger April 3, 2014 Share April 3, 2014 (edited) Hello all. After being out of the hobby for a long while I'm pulling the trigger on a new tank. My original plan was for a Nuvo 38 nano-reef in our living room. That idea was not approved by SWMBO. The next idea was an 80 gallon frag tank in the basement. The response was "That's not going to be wide or tall enough. Get something bigger." So not wanting to disappoint my wife I've decided on a 125 reef ready. I'll be doing a Bean Animal/ Herbie overflow. The other things I have purchased or plan to are the following: TANK: 125 REEF READY STAND: CUSTOM BUILT CONTROLLER: APEX LIGHTS: DUAL EVERGROW IT2060 SUMP: DIY 40 GALLON BREEDER SKIMMER: AVAST CS1 RETURN PUMP: RLSS WAVELINE DC 6000 ATO: AVAST WAVE PUMPS: 2 x JEBAO WP-25 REACTORS: BRS DUAL GFO/CARBON HEATER: 250 WATT EHEIM JAGER TESTING KITS: REFRECTOMETER, HANNA CHECKER, RED SEA, ETC. RO/DI: BRS 4 STAGE 75 GPD WITH 150 GPD WATER SAVER DOSER PUMPS: BRS 2 PART DOSER 1.1 ML/MIN GRAVEL: REEF ROCK STORE SAND ROCK: THE REEF ROCK STORE DRY ROCK – 100LBS Any suggestions on things that I may have missed would be appreciated. I'll post pics as the build comes along. Edited April 3, 2014 by Flieger
Orion April 3, 2014 Share April 3, 2014 Look what I started! Cant wait to see how this progresses... The 250 watt Eheim is 17.3" long, and most of it needs to be underwater. Be sure to take that into consideration with regards to placement in your sump. I would suggest getting two 200 watt Eheim's that are a couple of inches smaller. You can plug them into the same outlet on your EB8 using one of these, and if one fails while you are out of town the other will still be able to heat the tank. flooddc April 3, 2014 Share April 3, 2014 Nice! 2-wp25 might not be enough for the 125.
matt April 3, 2014 Share April 3, 2014 Nice! 2-wp25 might not be enough for the 125. That's what I was thinking. I'm building a 120 4x2x2 and was thinking at least one wp40 if all jaebo. If you want wp pumps, check fishstreet...they have a package for two pumps controlled via the same 'twin' controller
Flieger April 3, 2014 Author Share April 3, 2014 I was going to see how they go and if need be I was thinking about adding a 3rd between the other 2.
smallreef April 3, 2014 Share April 3, 2014 I think you'll be okay with the2 Wp 25s...I've got a wp40 on mine...and thinking of going back...even on the lowest flow its still reallllly strong for my euphyllias...
YHSublime April 3, 2014 Share April 3, 2014 I roll 2 wp. 40s on full in my 150. Too strong for most Lps, just right for sps. What does your stock list look like?

Flieger April 7, 2014 Author Share April 7, 2014 Planning my sump build and am thinking that leaving room for at least 10 gallons of water space for when the return pump stops and tank water still drains down. Does that sound like a reasonable amount? The sump is a 40 breeder. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Orion April 7, 2014 Share April 7, 2014 That sounds good. What is the height of the water above the overflow? Using the calculator on RC I used 1.5", and this is what it came up with - Using the following input parametersTank Length = 72 inchesTank Width = 18 inchesHeight of Water above Overflow = 1.5 inches Sump volume is calculated asSump Volume need to handle tank overflow = 8.4 Gallons http://www.reefcentral.com/index.php/sump-volume
Flieger April 7, 2014 Author Share April 7, 2014 (edited) Yeah that's how I figured it but used 1" height instead of 1.5 and then added some for a buffer factor. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited April 7, 2014 by Flieger
Flieger April 11, 2014 Author Share April 11, 2014 The build is slowly getting under way. I turned this: Into this: It went together fairly easily. The only issue I had was getting the top of the cone to fit in the groove. I had to sand down the sides of the cone a little bit so the top of the cone would fit into the groove on the top plate. They are actually very simple. I would suggest everybody put one together for the experience alone! Looking good, I'm looking forward to watching this come together! cbashaw April 11, 2014 Share April 11, 2014 This looks like it's going to be a great setup. I can't wait to see how it turns out. You are going to love the cs-1. They are great skimmers.

Would you consider kick-starting the cycle with some established sand and live-rock in addition to what you will have? Flieger April 13, 2014 Author Share April 13, 2014 (edited) I'm planning on starting the cycle using Dr Tim's One and Only and his ammonia. Orion recommened it. I've also changed my sump to a 55 gallon since the 40 won't fit under the stand and I get a bit more water volume. The it2060s are also being changed to the 2080s. Change is good right? YHSublime April 13, 2014 Share April 13, 2014 You will love the 2080's, check out my build, I rocked them on a 150 for about 7 months.

YHSublime April 13, 2014 Share April 13, 2014 Thanks. I'll check it out. Why only 7 months? Did you switch to something different? So I worked my way up to Radion G3 Pros. I wish I had another one. For half the price, the IT's did what my radions do... but I'm a sucker for new toys and control ability. If you don't like them, I will buy them, that's how much I stand behind them

Flieger April 29, 2014 Author Share April 29, 2014 Well there have been a couple of changes. I will now be lighting my tank with an ATI 60" 6 bulb T5 set up instead of the Evergrow LEDs (Orion twisted my arm). Since I already have the LEDs and can't seem to sell them I am going to donate them to the Belleview OH High School marine research program. You may have seen Dave on Mr. Coral TV recently. He plans on using the lights to do an unbiased long term research project on coral growth comparing MH, T5 and LED lighting. I have also changed my wave pumps from two wp-25s to two wp-40s on your recommendations. Things are coming along slowly. Pics will be posted when there is something worth taking a picture of.
