Recently I got this rbta and it's been in the tank for a few days now. Today I've notice that its been closing up and then opening back up. It's been doing this for the past hour. I also noticed that its got its mouth wide open. I'm starting to worry since I heard that signs like these lead to their death.

Well, mine do this daily...they tend to move after the flexing fun...

Really, just keep an eye on it...doesn't look bad so I wouldn't mess with it...it's probably just changing its internal water out...

I wouldn't worry much right now and the mouth doesn't look like that of a sick anemone. Maybe in the morning you will have two as I've seen them split when newly introduced and acting like that.

+1 on splitting after being introduced and exhibiting that behavior.

When I added one into my tank it split in the first 24 hours. I believe it was stress, but who knows.

Thanks for all the info guys!

That'd be really cool if I woke up to two tomorrow.

Rbta is doing well and my snowflake and perc is hosting it!

Great news! I was feeding mine a chunk of shrimp about once a week for awhile until the thing started going through a massive growth spurt. The one rbta was larger than a basketball and taking up a good 2/3 of my tank. Needless to say I have since cut back on the feedings.

I have literally countless BTAs; all from a single BTA I bought about 10 years ago.  Ever since it started spitting like crazy about 5 years ago, I have never feed any of them.  In fact I actually try not to get any food near them ! Still they have grown like crazy and continue to split.
