lutz123 September 1, 2013 September 1, 2013 (edited) I picked out a little coral at the LFS thinking it was a pretty little turquoise colored mushroom and when I got home I realized it does not really look like a mushroom at all. Please help me ID. These all look so similar. It's about the size of a quarter. Sorry about the lighting. Thank you! Edited September 1, 2013 by lutz123

lutz123 September 1, 2013 Author September 1, 2013 Thank you! That's what I was hoping. It got so puffy I started questioning myself!
Coral Hind September 1, 2013 September 1, 2013 I would be worried about the exposed mesenterial filaments. Did you tear it or is something hurting it?
lutz123 September 1, 2013 Author September 1, 2013 It got torn when packaging at the LFS I think. It looks better this morning but I'm keeping an eye on it. I did a revive dip before I put it in - no iodine on hand for the injury. Is there anything else I can do besides watch? Bigger problem is that or AC decided to stop working yesterday afternoon and it's going to be a hot day for the tanks! Luckily they are in my home office and I can use a fan (plus a fan blowing on a big bucket of ice).
Coral Hind September 1, 2013 September 1, 2013 Just keep it in a good flow area, which helps it from getting infected. It should be fine, they are pretty hardy. I would put the ice in zip lock bags and float them. I would also turn the lights off today as corals can easily go a couple days with no lights and it will reduce heat. I tend to run my tanks warmer than most so unless it goes over 83F I don't stress. If it does get panic level high turn off extra powerheads and skimmer as they add heat to the water. Just keep the main pump running.
Coral Hind September 1, 2013 September 1, 2013 I don't know how much money you have invested in your tank or the size of it but if there is a chance that a good bit of money can be lost if things die I would buy a cheap $100 window shaker A/C unit and put it in the office until the main A/C can be fixed.

lutz123 September 1, 2013 Author September 1, 2013 Nuvo 16 and a picotope. I could pack it up in a cooler and get it out if need be. i guess that's a plus for small tanks (though I know they heat up faster too)! Lucky for me my office stays pretty cool so it should be okay.
Coral Hind September 1, 2013 September 1, 2013 Yeah, being that small helps. I think the fan and bags of ice floating would be enough.
gmerek2 September 1, 2013 September 1, 2013 We don't always use AC at my house. My tank gets to upper 80s sometimes. The only thing that shows signs of stress is fungia.
