flooddc August 22, 2013 August 22, 2013 Saw some rust around the edges of an old mag cleaner (aquarium system). I peeled out the cleaner pad to inspect and 3 pieces of magnets came lose. the inside all rusted except for the magnet surface. I only use this cleaner one awhile to clean the sump and always removed after use. Question is whether rusted magnetic unsafe for the reef tank? I recalled someone here mention about rusted metal in the tank with no ill effect. I also, saw a thread on RC claiming that a rusted magnet from a frag rack killed all the corals in the tank. Any thought? Thanks
Djplus1 August 22, 2013 August 22, 2013 So are all rusty magnets fine? I have one of those eshopps frag racks that the magnet started busting through on. Only a little rust, but I tried coating the crack with super glue to prevent it from rusting any further.
Coral Hind August 22, 2013 August 22, 2013 A little rust is fine. There was a thread recently about iron and rust in tanks and everyone agreed it was pretty safe.
