Gadgets October 29, 2005 October 29, 2005 I just added a baffle into my fuge and I was wondering how long I should wait before putting the fuge back into my system? I don't want to leave the tank for too long. I have the PHs running in the tank so there is some flow. What do u guys suggest? Thanks
discordja October 29, 2005 October 29, 2005 Most silicone compounds will cure in full in about 24 hours. I'd not put it back in before that. Guest clownfish4 October 29, 2005 October 29, 2005 Agreed. Wait at least 24 hours. It may be wise to flush it with some water before putting back into service as well.
Guest clownfish4 October 29, 2005 October 29, 2005 I don't think so, unless you don't let it fully cure. I just always go the safe route. Why risk it when its so simple to flush it?
Gadgets October 29, 2005 Author October 29, 2005 Yeah ur right. As they say... Nothing good happens fast in this hobby, or addiction as I call it. Thanks again.
xeon October 30, 2005 October 30, 2005 What type of Silicone? The curing agent in the Silicone will determine what kind of cure time you should use. For instance, GE I Window & Door uses acetic acid, or is acetoxy cured if you will. GE II Window & Door uses alcohol, it is neutrally cured. If the curing agent is acetic acid... I would allow for several days. Neturally cured should be fine after 24-48 hours.

BeltwayBandit October 30, 2005 October 30, 2005 are you putting this stuff inside your tank? 43764[/snapback] I have used GE Silicone I exclusively in my tank for baffles and other Fix it jobs. I try to plan the projects to give it at least 4-5 days to cure, but have used it in situations where I needed to make emergency repairs and put the item back in service in a day with no problems.
extreme_tooth_decay October 31, 2005 October 31, 2005 perfecto aquarium sealant says: Normally sealant "skins" in 5 minutes, cures and bonds in 24 hours. Allow 48 hours before filling tank again. Optimum strength is achieved in 7 days.
Gadgets October 31, 2005 Author October 31, 2005 Well the good news is... I waited for it to cure and it was fine. Bad news... The baffle was too tall. so i had to take it out. Talk about a waste of time. I guess next time I will measure it twice.
