I just joined the group as a member.

I picked up a 72G Bow Front on Craigslist about 6 months ago.  (had other tanks years ago, but went overseas)

I live in the Mount Vernon/Alexandria area.

Currently have

3 blue damsels (willing to trade 2 for other fish or corals)

1 Lawnmower Blenny

1 yellow tang

2 Black clowns

assorted shrimp (3) and snails and hermits

lots of leather (kenyan trees) and a large mushroom (willing to help propogate but need some assistance)

lots of micro brittlestars

1 sand sifting star

1 Anemone

1 polyp frag

currently looking for more corals, a 6 line wrasse (mine disappeared)

Welcome! And thankfully another NOVA person, lol we have some great LFS' close...2 in Manassas and another in springfield

Welcome to the club and back to the hobby! How did you go about picking that screen name? I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of your setup.

The screen name is just something I have been using for years.  Not sure where I got Javelin, but the 911 I picked up when I was firefighting.

That's cool. I thought it might have been a reference to the Javelin missile, FGM 148. I was part of the Test and Evaluation team back in the mid 90's for it.

So what all do you have hanging on the back of the tank? Do you have a sump running? Can you place the heater down in there?

(edited)

The back is just a small 1 Gallon refug with an LED light.  Would like to get something bigger, but it was a start.

There is a sump under the tank.  The heater could go in there, but I put it up top until I was comfortable with temp and adjustments.

The sump is an acrylic thing I bought at Pristine Aq. with the balls on one side.  I have a skimmer on the other side with the return pump.

On top I have 2x of the BeamsWork LED 48" lights.  I got them for $100 for the pair on eBay.

The original light was a dual metal Halide and quad florescent system, but was in VERY bad shape.

Many reefers will say you should slowly remove the bio-balls and let the live rock and sand do the work now. It looks like you have an ASM skimmer, those are really nice performers to me. The heater in the sump just makes the tank look cleaner to me.

If you have space in the sump you should do a PVC modification to the skimmer output to lessen the splash and noise. Here is a picture of the mod on my old ASM G1X. I think it was done with 1-1/4" PVC.
