MBVette April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 So it seems one of my PJ cardinals is getting picked on pretty bad, and his tail is gone and all he has now is a little stump. But he is still eating well and swimming (dont know how, but he does it) But I feel bad for the guy. Should I put him out of his misery?
Incredible Corals April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 If he's eating and can still swim why not put him in your sump?
MBVette April 1, 2013 Author April 1, 2013 well not all that surprisingly he was quite easy to catch b/c of how slow he was. Now he is residing in the sump, hopefully he heals up.
BowieReefer84 April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 What kind of fish are you mixing together to get that kind of result? That's a little beyond "picked on." More like eaten...
Huly April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 My rule is with my furkids and it would be the same for our fish is if he is happy swimming and eating let them be!
nbgen12 April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 (edited) I'm not sure that picture and the word happiness fit together. That tail is totally eaten to the bone lol. It looks like its backbone is sticking out.... Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2 Edited April 1, 2013 by nbgen12
Coral Hind April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 ouch, that's a serious fight, more like a nibble. Any powerheads or something else he could have gotten sucked into?
MBVette April 1, 2013 Author April 1, 2013 So no there is no blood and at all. I have not seen any aggression at all around the cardinals and I think Dave and Steve might be right that its an MP40 attack since they like to hover around one of them. If someone wants to pick him up and do a whole QT and try to rehab they can. Otherwise he will live out his days in my sump
08can-am April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 I had a hawk fish doing severe damage to my cardinals and chromis. Down to the nub like that. Once the hawk was go e the fish healed really fast. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it

MBVette April 1, 2013 Author April 1, 2013 Luckily for this guy cardinals don't really swim they just hover.
sachabballi reef April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 good point...but still you would think they use it for balance or something....so odd it doesnt affect him but glad!
Der ABT April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 tail will not grow back i have a hippo tang i got from a fellow reefer....the thing loved an RBTA so much that he has a tail about like the cardinals cept a small sliver of yellow at the bottom....he acts as if nothing is wrong though he is in the frag tank which doesnt have a ton of flow. i say either leave him or sump him if noone else wants him....ill be he does just fine.
Incredible Corals April 1, 2013 April 1, 2013 I would say bring him to the store and we can put him in the 4 gallon nano but I might puke every time I look at him. That bone sticking out looks nasty.
MBVette April 1, 2013 Author April 1, 2013 If you want him Steve you are more than welcome to him. He is in a 15g section of my sump but its dark down there all the time. Just let me know

Coral Hind April 2, 2013 April 2, 2013 I think you need to make it a prosthetic tail like this dolphine: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-500172_162-20110052.html
