Hello everyone,

I am very new to Marine aquariums. Never kept one before. Although I have had freshwater fish all my life. My wife has always been nagging me to have a saltwater setup as she likes the more colorful fish and corals that come with it so I finally gave in, sold my 125 fresh water setup and am diving into the salty head on.

So I jioned WAMAS and attended the last meeting and hoping to make new friends and get a lot of help and knowledge from the experts here. Primarily want to keep a few fish and work with corals over the next few months and see how successful I will be. Hopefully wont kill too many fish or corals.

My first attempt which is in the process of being setup is about 200 gallons of a custom beast. Fortunately came with all possible equipment and toys that I would every need so I think I got a great deal for the price.

I am currently (with help) in the process of setting it up and making sure nothing leaks and functions properly etc etc. I am hoping to get the whole system running and ready to start cycling this weekend.

Hope to meet more of the membership at the next meeting by which time I should be up and running.

Thanks!

Welcome to WAMAS. I'm glad that you chose to post. (I'm the guy that handed you your card at the meeting.)

The first best advice you'll get in this hobby is "be patient." There's a lot of truth to the saying, nothing good every happens fast in a reef aquarium.

Second, read, research and ask questions. You'll not only spend less money and experience less frustration, but you'll also cause less collateral damage along the way. We encourage using the collective body of knowledge in this hobby to promote good husbandry practices. A lot about this hobby is discovery and application. Results differ in many cases depending upon the specifics in individual tanks. So, please, research the demands and compatibility of species (not only fish, but also corals and other invertebrates) before making the purchase.

Glad to have you here!

Thank you Tom.

Absolutely want to get help and I am usually never afraid to ask the "stupid" questions. I am hoping to get my tank cycled in the next month or so and get a couple fish in there which came part of the deal. These are currently in a friend's tank who is very knowledgeable as well.

Having worked with fish before, yes, patience is always very important in this hobby which I have learnt and cultivated over the years of FW fish keeping.

Thanks!

Thank you Braden. I am in Annandale, VA.

Welcome! I know you are going to have fun setting up your tank...make sure to start a build thread so we can all see, plus it makes it easier to keepntrack of things when you have questions :-)

Welcome! I just joined last week. I'm starting with a 29, never had a tank in my life...WAMAS has been a great help already. Good luck!
