Chad February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 http://reefbuilders.com/2011/07/26/tunze-masterstream-powers-boat-case-measuring-output-thrust-gph/ Now, I just need to work on finding a tank large enough to need it...
Coral Hind February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 Now that you have a garage you can build a saltwater pond in there and get a pair of sharks. This PH would be fine in that.
MBVette February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 (edited) Im not sure thats really a reasonable speed, considering the size of the pump. Edited February 14, 2013 by MBVette
dave w February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 that's a pretty powerful pump.
Jason Rhoads February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 I am pretty sure this thing would blow the front glass right off my aquarium!
Chad February 14, 2013 Author Share February 14, 2013 that really puts it in perspective... that wouldn't even fit in a lot of folk's tanks!
Jason Rhoads February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 Yeah, when I saw that video I had to find out what the PH looked like. I have read about people using trolling motors in tanks for water movement, I wonder how this compares as far as cost/newton of thrust (or even gph). Coral Hind February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 It would have to be a bare bottom tank for sure. It's probably more suited for aquaculture facilities with tubs or vats.

Coral Hind February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 Wow, that thing is expensive, over $3k!! http://www.championlighting.com/product.php?productid=38440&cat=1341&page=1 Flow rate: 7,900 to 29,000 US gal./h Energy consumption: max. 115 W Dimensions: L 13.4" x W 6.5" x H 8.9") Attachment to pipe: 1.25" Supplied with Wavecontroller 7092
MBVette February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 so that thing starts where the MP60 maxes out. Insane flow, wouldnt tanks that size use closed loop similar to how aquariums are setup?
Coral Hind February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 29,000 g/h at only 115w is very impressive. I just can get over the price tag!
Chad February 14, 2013 Author Share February 14, 2013 Scott, they definitely used to... though the trend the past 5 years or so has gone toward the more energy efficient and controllable power heads rather than closed loops. Even look at this one... 115 watts max, that's less than my bedroom light switch. Though with the new DC pumps (like waveline), I'm going put my bet in now that closed loops make a return in the next few years.
Chad February 14, 2013 Author Share February 14, 2013 Hah, and I just noticed... the link you posted is actually for the smaller one! I agree, if the DC pumps can be controlled to create wave actions they will be ideal. Closed loops also free up tank space and look better. Chad February 14, 2013 Author Share February 14, 2013 LOL... you're worried about the pump... There's no way I could get to the point in a build where I'd be considering a pump that large with my wife!! haha
Coral Hind February 14, 2013 Share February 14, 2013 I might be able to put it into the pool. Now I'm thinking...
