So, I went home from the WAMAS symposium with a free 90 gallon tank and stand. A little over a year, and a lot of dollars later, it is starting to look like a reff tank.

The planets have converged so that I have time to shoot a few photos and the camera was actually in town last week.

Just short of a year ago, the tank looked like this:

Earlier this year, during a long algae bloom, and before a modest meltdown during a trip, it looked like this:

The algae bloom has subsided, a few more corals have been added, and the tank is no longer an embarrassment:

A lot of the frags and colonies are growing rapidly (pics to follow), but there's obviously lots of room for more.

Very nice job.

I always liked gorgonians and you'res look great!

What lights do you use and what do you have for current?

Thanks! I decided to try for a "gorgonian forest" effect, both because I love them and because they are generally very hardy. I'd still like to get a few more species before I sit back and watch them grow for a while.

I am using 2X250 watt XM 10000 Ks on electronic ballasts. The big gorgonian in the front sunburned really fast when I first switched from Iwasakis, but recovered within a few hours. The next round I used window screen to get them used to the higher blue/UV and all the corals did great.

I wanted a lot of current, so in addition to the mag 9.5 return pump, there's a closed loop with a Pan-World 100PXX/MD40X (1270 gph nominal) and a 4-way OceansMotions Supersquirt. I tried to arrange it so everybody gets some good surge, but nobody's blasted all the time.

This is one of my favorites, very flexible gorg with long polyps that I got from Scott. Started establishing a holdfast within a week, and has been getting taller and bushier by the day.

This little guy came from a beautiful colony I got from Dr Mac last year. The colony melted down within 12 hours of arrival, but I saved this piece. It has established itself now, and is on its way.

Scott who?

I want a frag.

Scott711, that's who. This is definitely a coral that should get spread around.

That is funny that you mention that. I actually was just thinking of fraging it. It has grown larger and I have cut some pieces of for frags.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

Scott

If there is interest, I can probably cut a frag or two from the "scott711" colony in a little bit.

I have already fragged and mounted a few pieces from the sea rod left of center. You can see one in the bottom left corner of the "center" shot.

I would be interested in some of the frags. shoot me a pm. I live in DC near Howard University. Let me know when the frags are ready. Do these corals need to be fed?

Scott,

I have an interest. Please PM me also with details.

Chris

I'll PM you guys soon about the gorg frags.

A few pictures of zoos. I really like them for low cover.
