mogurnda August 15, 2005 August 15, 2005 So, I went home from the WAMAS symposium with a free 90 gallon tank and stand. A little over a year, and a lot of dollars later, it is starting to look like a reff tank. The planets have converged so that I have time to shoot a few photos and the camera was actually in town last week. Just short of a year ago, the tank looked like this: Earlier this year, during a long algae bloom, and before a modest meltdown during a trip, it looked like this: The algae bloom has subsided, a few more corals have been added, and the tank is no longer an embarrassment: Left side: Center: From right end: One more overview, center-left: A lot of the frags and colonies are growing rapidly (pics to follow), but there's obviously lots of room for more.
flowerseller August 15, 2005 August 15, 2005 Very nice job. I always liked gorgonians and you'res look great! What lights do you use and what do you have for current?
mogurnda August 15, 2005 Author August 15, 2005 Very nice job.I always liked gorgonians and you'res look great! What lights do you use and what do you have for current? 36726 Thanks! I decided to try for a "gorgonian forest" effect, both because I love them and because they are generally very hardy. I'd still like to get a few more species before I sit back and watch them grow for a while. I am using 2X250 watt XM 10000 Ks on electronic ballasts. The big gorgonian in the front sunburned really fast when I first switched from Iwasakis, but recovered within a few hours. The next round I used window screen to get them used to the higher blue/UV and all the corals did great. I wanted a lot of current, so in addition to the mag 9.5 return pump, there's a closed loop with a Pan-World 100PXX/MD40X (1270 gph nominal) and a 4-way OceansMotions Supersquirt. I tried to arrange it so everybody gets some good surge, but nobody's blasted all the time.
mogurnda August 16, 2005 Author August 16, 2005 This is one of my favorites, very flexible gorg with long polyps that I got from Scott. Started establishing a holdfast within a week, and has been getting taller and bushier by the day.
mogurnda August 16, 2005 Author August 16, 2005 This little guy came from a beautiful colony I got from Dr Mac last year. The colony melted down within 12 hours of arrival, but I saved this piece. It has established itself now, and is on its way.
mogurnda August 16, 2005 Author August 16, 2005 Scott who?I want a frag. 36819 Scott711, that's who. This is definitely a coral that should get spread around.

I actually was just thinking of fraging it. It has grown larger and I have cut some pieces of for frags. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks, Scott
flowerseller August 16, 2005 August 16, 2005 I am interested. PM details please. What lighting are you growing them under?
mogurnda August 16, 2005 Author August 16, 2005 If there is interest, I can probably cut a frag or two from the "scott711" colony in a little bit. I have already fragged and mounted a few pieces from the sea rod left of center. You can see one in the bottom left corner of the "center" shot.
