Quantum Aquaria May 21, 2012 May 21, 2012 so the other day i came home and was checking on the tank just to make sure everything was okay after the lights had gone out... when the lights came on, i didn't see any of my green chromis and was freakin out... then i saw movement and heads poking out from the Green Birdsnest colony... it was like watching a discovery channel episode... very cool
Jan May 21, 2012 May 21, 2012 They hide, not necessarily host like clownfish. Mine do it all the time.
Coral Hind May 21, 2012 May 21, 2012 That's a cool picture. I have had domino damsels reside in a LTA before.
Origami May 21, 2012 May 21, 2012 I think, like Jan said, they're hiding for the night, not "hosting" in the sense that there's a symbiotic, mutualistic relationship.
smallreef May 21, 2012 May 21, 2012 Yeah its like Jan said... they like to be able to hide and feel safe in the reef.. if you have ever done some snorkeling or scuba you'll see it all the time... its so much fun to watch them get comfortable in the coral and then dart out for the food!
Quantum Aquaria May 21, 2012 Author May 21, 2012 yeah, too bad i have no idea how to take pictures or videos. I was trying to take a video but it just came out blue... oh well, i'll have to learn how so that i can take nice videos next time
Integral9 May 21, 2012 May 21, 2012 Yup. Mine did the same in my GBN, once it got big enough and before the Hammer of doom came along. I thought it was really cool, until I saw a breif shot in the Planet Earth series (shallow seas iirc) where an entire school of Chromis where pulsating in and out of a SPS colony the size of a VW bug. WOW.
JLW May 22, 2012 May 22, 2012 Many years ago, I impulse bought a HUGE, bright green carpet anemone at a Petco. (Yea, yea... I know, there are at least seven things wrong with that sentence). I put it into my tank, and, within a few hours, had a really nice, open carpet anemone ... and about a half dozen domino damsels. Of course, the anemone died in about two weeks.
