Fishie February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 I've seen this topic Elsewhere but I've decided I want to get one of these fixtures... I have a cube 36x36x24 rimless cube and don't know which of these to go with...without breaking the bank too much I hear the radions are the best buy are they a lot more superior and is the price tag justified
Ryan S February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 (edited) I have a 36x36x27 and just went with 2 Radions. You'd need 4 AI's for the same tank. This guy made a sweet swinging arm mount for 2 radions over a 36x36 footprint tank. I think it would look great over a rimless. Vivid Aquariums is running an experiment with Radions compared to 400w and 1000w MH's, and to date, the radions have similar growth and coloration. Finally, Mr. Saltwater Tank had Radions and shows pics before and after them with awesome growth and coloration in this video. Edited February 1, 2012 by Ryan S
yauger February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 dude that LCD swing mount for the radeon is genius... very clean look.
Guest thefishman65 February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 I would build my own, but if that is not an option I like the Radions.
Reefoholic February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 That swing arm looks pretty neat!!! I say go for Radions or DIY because I went AI and I regret it very much so! I am back to MH/T5s now... Chad or ThefishGuy can help you greatly with a DIY fixture.
ChrisTran February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 i am running 2 Radions and 2 AIs on a 36x36x27 tank. I think the coverage for 2 Radions hanging side by side is about 30x30. If you plan to keep lps and softies at the bottom of the tank, you may raise the fixtures up to increase the coverage.
roni February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 Chris, how are you liking the radions compared to the sunpowers you had before? We need some updated shots of your tank btw
ChrisTran February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 (edited) Chris, how are you liking the radions compared to the sunpowers you had before? We need some updated shots of your tank btw To be completely honest, corals appear to have better color under T5s due to the flexibility of choosing bulbs, color temperatures and bulb placement within the fixture. However, I am not regret going with Radions. My personal justifications are: 1. Less maintenance: Less heat means less elaboration. I only have to fill up my top-off water every 10 days now. One time installation and I don Edited February 1, 2012 by ChrisTran
Ryan S February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 Chris, From what I've read (i haven't used my radions yet), don't you have complete control of their color spectrum, so in theory, couldn't you match any combination of T5s with the radions?
RicSG February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 That Vesa LCD Swing arm is sick. I like it and now I want to upgrade my tank to deep tanks to get that setup. LOL first I have to ask the wife...... dammit.

Agreed. but for some reasons, my red, pink and purple SPSs are not doing as nice as when they were under T5s.

You can only control the colors you have to work with. T5s offer a variety of spectrums that may not be able to be achieved by LEDs. I have heard lots of people say exactly what chris said about the red pink and purples not looking as good.
BowieReefer84 February 1, 2012 February 1, 2012 Warm Whites helped my pink pocci. Red planet... Not so much.
