LanglandJoshua July 21, 2011 Share July 21, 2011 I started with a 55 gallon tank, after an unexpected leak at 3AM on a Sunday morning I took the system down. By the next day I had a 75 gallon tank. This upgrade was much better planned. I started bulking up on rock, and over time had the 75 hugely full. Now I just need to put the sides up, get another 400W 10K MH light, and MP40ES. Enough story time, here is the tank. After I added a couple pipes to guide the water into my sump. Before I transferred everything after most stuff was tranferred After moving the tank into the final position My foxface expressing its protest to the move! lights out The big guy(engineer goby) came out for feeding time! LanglandJoshua July 21, 2011 Author Share July 21, 2011 Thanks guys, we dumped water into the 75 gal tank, and a 20 long. We left about 15-20 in, and pulled out over 100lbs of rock. Then my father and I lifted it by the supports directly under the tank. It was sketchy, but went well. Unfortunately with the way everything was we couldn't easily build it in the final resting place. LanglandJoshua July 22, 2011 Author Share July 22, 2011 (edited) 60"X30"21" custom acrylic, I got it from L8 2 RISE. It fits beautifully, my corner is 65"X60". I have 5" to spare from the wall. The hood comes just high enough that it wastes no space, yet I can still squeeze in there to adjust the lights. I am planning on setting up 5gal bucket for a water reservoir for the ATO, rotifer, phyto cultures, with a 30-40 gal hospital tank. All under the stand! Might be a bit ambitious, but we will see. *note, my keyboard is skipping keys. I press fully, but the don't show, so I might miss typo or two. A frag of my Halloween Chalice that I have growing out onto a rock. Saved this SPS from some rubble that I got from L8 2 RISE, thanks again for the stuff. I still dont know its name Some xenia I saved again from L8 2 RISE's rock. I almost made it base rock But Ive already seen signs of growth. Tons of Kenya tree Montipora I salvaged from another members rock. One of my 4 GBTA's, I am selling two An RBTA I plan to split as soon as I have my refugium cleared out, and a light for it. Why are you using 400 watt halides? at 21" and those dimensions two 250watts would be perfect would some nice reflectors. Maybe a couple t5 or vho in the front and back if you wanted... I was feeling out what a 400W 10k would do, its ok. But your right. I think that when I order my next light I will switch to 250's thats why I got the ballast I did. I can switch betweenthe two. LanglandJoshua July 22, 2011 Author Share July 22, 2011 no, just a fan after 5-7 hours my tank is at 80 degrees. I have a fan keeping it down to about 79. But that is a major factor for me. If the 250's put out less, than my heater might actually have something to do....also that is the setup I have lol. Except the 400W 10K. I really want the coral growth. So I will probably get a 250W 10k, maybe 14k. The crazy thing is, that overnight it still holds temp. Even in a 65 degree house...I think I need a BIGGER FAN! BTW, if you can fit a 120. Then you should be able to fit this to. Although it is custom, I think you could get similar. That was my justification . Just remember, if yo get something smaller than you really want or can handle. Then you are doomed to rebuild later...unless you like the build which I LOVE! The green thing is a green cap, there was a rock that I gave you that was covered in it, but you may have accidentally used it as base rock because it wasn't a very special rock... the stuff grows really fast. The yellow polyps also grow really fast and you'll probably end up with a forrest of them similar to how fast the kenya tree spreads! I went with 250's on this tank because it is pretty shallow- I'd just suggest some 250's with high quality reflectors when you get around to it. Unfortunately I was never able to upgrade my reflectors (the ones you saw). I originally planned on 400's so still have ballasts for them, but changed my mind later. Tank looks great! I had four 400W halides on a 30" deep tank and I some of my corals got UV burns. Just re-evaluate to make sure that is what you really want. But I wanted to feel it out, which I think I said in a previous post. I also mentioned that I will be swapping out to 250W lights. Which is why I got the ballast I did. I have (2) 150watts Phoenix bulbs 5" off the water on my 75 gallon (21" high) and it always stays at 79 with a fan. I may try 400's just because its funny, I have zoas that are fully open in the top 4-10" of water...they aren't burned. So I'm finding that the lighting needs are more to what the individual zoa has adapted to. When I do the 400's, I'll see if I can get a PAR meter and show my results. That will be between what the corals behavior says and what the "conventional" lighting/ coral arrangement are. I would not be surprised to just back it up lol.
