I am making an ATO unit that will have a return pump connected to a 1/2 inch PVC pipe. I have constructed the PVC pipe so that I will fit the tank nicely. It looks great, but I have one concern. Its the Primmer and Glue. I used the Home Depot PVC Purple primmer and Clear glue. It has been dry for over a week now, but I can still smell the primmer and glue on the PVC. Is this safe for aquarium use? If not than what are you suppose to use? I need this water tight and sturdy. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not hooking up this ATO unit till I am sure the primmer and glue will not hurt my tank. Maybe this isn't a big deal, but I don't want to risk anything.

I agree. Most of the time I have heard and recommended 24 hours of dry time.

Not saying to do this, but I have literally waited 5 minutes from the time I was done applying it before sucking on the tube to fill it with water (wow, I DONT recommend doing that! I think the fumes about killed me) and turning the pump on to run system water through it. That was on my full blown SPS tank, there were no visual detrimental side effects.

... I have literally waited 5 minutes ...

That long?

I too have only given it a few minutes to set then used it without any issues.

I've done the same in low pressure situations (such as an open-ended topoff, or in drains). For pressure applications, I wait at least 15 minutes.

Yeah that stuff stinks bad.

I do the same as others have posted: let it sit for a few minutes, rinse it with tap water, and use it.

Agree it would be wise to let it sit a bit longer for a pressure application.

hmmm, I wonder if that is why I can never find my keys (when they are usually in my pocket the whole time)...
