Fed ex brought me some new additions today!

Four new erectus for my heard :)

all four are exploring their new surroundings and looking for food now.

Yay! Pictures later :)

David, I have 6 now...

I lost 2 over the past few months :( One to a pouch issue that occured while I was out of town and the other to a tramatic incident with a powerhead, also while I was out of town...

My tank seemed too large for just two seahorses and the two I lost were opposite sex from two different mated pairs... Needless to say, the remaining two seemed rather depressed. Time for some "fresh fish"!!! (Shawshenk Redemption reference).

Doug, I wish!! Since my fiance saw my "sump upgrade" as the addition of another wholly separate fish tank (it kind of is, but the only visible change was pulling the whole setup away from the wall another 7" or so), I am not sure that I can pull something like that off... I do think I am making progress with the "look how cute they are" and "wouldnt it be nice to have a bunch of little ones around?" attempts, though... Truthfully, I think I could get away with it if I were to take down one of the tanks in my system to make room... it isnt an "expansion" then!! I am continuing to work on this one, though... slowly, but surely I will get there :)

Congrats on your new ones, Jan!! Looks like we will both have to post up some pictures tonight!!

Some pics of the new arrivals... All are healthy and eating, hopefully they will hang onto the colors they currently have. As you can see, they are nicely colored at the moment. But IME, seahorses are whatever color they feel like being, not the color I want them to be!!

Sorry for the poor quality, my glass is a little dirty and my photo skills leave something to be desired.

Enjoy!!

So far so good... Though, with seahorses, not getting along usually goes about as far as a little color flashing and shoving, so really I dont expect much. And since my current seahorses have "whipped" the diamond goby who lives with them into shape, he has not bothered them yet either :)

What's in your seahorse tank - What kind of livestock, corals, pumps, lights, etc.

Sweet horses Chad, any plans for breeding? If so, I would definitely be in line for some.....for some odd reason I have always liked seahorses, but never got into them....maybe if a local guy started to breed them that would get me into them (hint, hint) :-)

cheers,

Darren

PS Great colors on those horses!

Equipment-wise, flow is two MJ1200s, a tunze nano wavebox, and a mag drive 9.5 as the return pump that runs through a 1/5 HP chiller and returns through a 2" pipe.

Lighting is some small actinic LEDs, a couple of actinic PCs and a 10k 250W MH light.

Corals are mostly leathers, gorgonians, zoas, and a hand full of LPSs like acans, sun corals, and a dendro.

Live stock beyond the seahorses is one diamond goby, a few brittle stars, and a few small blue leg hermits (I keep small ones in the DT and move them to the sump when they get bigger).

Thanks Darren!! If I take that plunge, I will certainly let everyone know!! Elsa (my fiance) assured me that we need to move before we will have room for me to take that on :(

Simply put pretty awesome.

Totally diggin it.

Thanks Mark!

Jan, they are much smaller than my older two, probably 2-3" head to tail or a little larger than what is usually seen in in LFSs. Youngens... my guess is they are less than six months old, the males pouches, while visible, do not look fully developed to me.

They're gorgeous! The H. CF Kuda I received 2 days ago are about the same size. I've had to make some modifications to pumps (placed screen over intake) and shut off a powerhead for them because of their size. These little ones are super active. Like toddlers. They're all over the place. This is why I asked what your set up is like in terms of what kind of equipment you use, etc.

Thanks Mark!

You are welcome to see my system if you would like, just let me know. I actually shut off one of my powerheads to introduce the new ones, I will turn it on next week for part of the day and then turn it back on and leave it the following week. IME, this gives them a chance to learn where they are, that way they can avoid them or intentionally find them (as they sometimes do to play or remove algae from themselves).

Where are the pictures of your new kudas?

I'd love to see your system. Thank you. I'll PM you.

My little ones are stupid. They keep swimming right into the intakes. I've covered the intake for my HOB filter and skimmer, switched out one of the powerheads and turned another one off. One in particular keeps swimming right into the high flow of the HOB and getting pushed around. This is all it does all day long. When I feed cyclopeeze it stops to eat then swims into the flow and does it all over again. It's like watching a kid obsessed with a roller coaster ride, LOL. The other one is much more mellow.

I want to take pics and post them but my family can't tell me what they did with the cartridge that holds the little chip for the camera. As soon as it surfaces I'll take pics and post them.

These Kudas are red. Very pretty.

Thanks Jan!
