overklok September 8, 2010 September 8, 2010 (edited) I have made the switch completely to LED!!!! My 220 now has 5 Aqua Illumination Gen2 module lighting. Edited September 8, 2010 by overklok
overklok September 8, 2010 Author September 8, 2010 I just installed them last night, so if there is new growth, they must really be amazing!! Retail they go for 600.00 for each module. I got them off ReefCentral for 1400.00 for all.
Coral Hind September 8, 2010 September 8, 2010 Wow, you got a great deal on them. Is there any way you can run them parrallel with the length of the tank?
overklok September 8, 2010 Author September 8, 2010 (edited) They are designed to run perpendicular to the long axis of the aquarium, the power and data cords would be an issue otherwise. The hanging kit mounts them perpendicular to the long axis also, they really aim the light on the corals and not on the glass. I have them set to low power right now, so I don't burn anything. ErikS September 8, 2010 September 8, 2010 Wow, you got a great deal on them. Is there any way you can run them parrallel with the length of the tank? They have actually recommended that on occasion (narrow tank) - mounting & wires would need some thought.
BowieReefer84 September 8, 2010 September 8, 2010 Is the spotlight as dramatic in person as the photo appears? What is the spacing inbetween fixtures? Nice tank.
overklok September 8, 2010 Author September 8, 2010 The spotlighting is not as pronounced as shown in the picture. Once I get the hanging fixture installed today, I will raised the light and it will help blend the zones. About 5 inch space between modules.
Der ABT September 8, 2010 September 8, 2010 not sure if possible, but it would be sweet if the mount was a curve so that the center is higher and the sides point in , i would think it would cover more of the coral with light and if you could turn them on and off individually would be a nice moving sun effect. I know there was a post with a fixture overseas that did somethign similar to the moving sun/changing color... when that becomes affordable id be dumb not to switch just to be able to watch taht affect,id probably cycle the sun moving every 3 minutes so i could be in awe at it and really confuse the coral and fish.. looks like it will be nice lighting, i wanna see that puppy turned up and turbocharged (or cheat and run some NOS)
ErikS September 8, 2010 September 8, 2010 you could turn them on and off individually would be a nice moving sun effect. Given that the mounting system is a modified t-track (bolt head fits into a slot) one might be able to modify the rails (bend) them a bit. RC Thread, videos of install The default controller can do sunrise/sunset over a specified period of time = a great effect. I understand AI has updated the firmware on the controller to give even more options. AI units with a Profilux (sp?) controller can do some outrageous effects - lightning, cloudy days....... (not really certain how much real use they are but what the heck - lol) OP - nice score, best I've seen on RC is the gen 1 units @ $250 a copy (gen 1 had some serious power problems). AI is definitely the cream of the crop at this point.
overklok September 9, 2010 Author September 9, 2010 (edited) The rails are quarter round aluminum poles, looks very difficult to bend. I have mounted the modules in the hanging kit and will post a pic later. Edited September 9, 2010 by overklok
