Kelly September 2, 2010 September 2, 2010 Hello All. I have taken over an established saltwater reef tank with a few fish and some basic corals. It's a 75 gallon tank with 20 gallon sump, live rock, live sand, refugium...etc. It contains fish (5 small fish) a few anemones and some coral. I'm pretty new to this hobby, and though the tank has been established for over 3 years, I'm struggling to maintain good nitrate levels. In addition, I want to make sure I'm doing all the right things that give the best chance of success. I'm looking to hire someone on a consulting basis to come out to my house in silver spring once or twice a week until the levels stabilize and I have a better idea of what I'm doing. I'd like evaluation of the current setup, as well as instructions on basic maintenance, including water changes. Please contact me if you are interested and we can discuss. I'm looking to pay somewhere around $100/hour. Thanks~!

Kelly September 2, 2010 Author September 2, 2010 Hello All. thank you so much for the responses. I've had several folks kind enough to offer help. It's really nice that as a new member to this forum, I now know that help is just a post away. I've contacted a couple of folks simply based on proximity to Silver Spring. Thank you all for your offers!
quazi September 2, 2010 September 2, 2010 You should put your location in your profile. It makes it easier for people to help. Good luck!
Coral Hind September 3, 2010 September 3, 2010 He lasted posted in April saying that he was out of the business. I talked to him yesterday morning before posting that and he is still in the business of tank maintenance. He just doesn't have his large tanks at home anymore. It's like some fish store owners breaking down the home tanks when they open a store up. For those that have been in WAMAS long enough you might remember some of the awesome large tanks that David had. Here are just a few pics.
Grav September 7, 2010 September 7, 2010 Thanks for putting in a word for us Doug. Yes we are in Silver Spring every week. For the record: anyplace within the beltway or close to it, out 66 west to the plains, out toll rd / rt 7 past Leesburg, down 95 past Lorton... are all areas we cover. Kelly, if you want someone to take care of the aquarium for you, we can help... even if it is just for 3, 6 months or a year, we can do that. However if you are looking to learn to do for yourself, a service like ours is not the best option... it just isn't the right way to learn. Think of it like this: if you want to learn to take care of cars... you don't take the car to a mechanic. You would go to a trade school, read books, study on the internet, subscribe to auto mechanic magazine etc... maybe visit the local parts store and chat with the guys that work there (or in this case visit a good local fish store) and talk to/meet other people in the car care industry. Happy to give free advice here, over the phone, via email... whatever :o) oh and WAMAS is an outstanding way to learn your aquarium! Join and attend meetings! If that learning thing or "do it yourself" aquarium doesn't sound like what you wanted and you decide you want someone to do it for you check out our website www.reefescape.net to get a feel for what we do. Phil
ctenophore September 7, 2010 September 7, 2010 Hi Kelly, Between Rob & ReefeScape, you're definitely in good hands. If you ever have a quick question or some sort of emergency, just let me know. I'm just up the road in Rockville and always have mixed saltwater on hand, etc. Welcome to WAMAS! Justin
