    RO/DI

I have a question which feels like a stupid thing to ask, but I really don't understand the RO/DI. I'm not so interested in what it does--I understand at a basic level that it purifies the water and is necessary for a successful reef tank. Right now, I'm having a local company deliver RO/purified water in 5 gallon containers. It's working pretty well so far, and for simplicity's sake, I don't mind keeping up that process. It is a little expensive week after week, but again, it is very simple. Obviously, I'm new to this hobby and learning as I go. I also have a pro helping me, but I'm trying to learn more and more on my own. I guess what I'm curious about is whether or not continuing using the commercial purified water is ok, or if I should go ahead and make the investment in an RO/DI system. If so, is it difficult to hook up? Where would I hook it up? Is it time consuming to "make" the water? I'd welcome any thoughts. Thanks Kelly
  2. I was looking into investing in RO/DI system when my LFS suggested I consider a Kold Sterile system. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
  3. Hello All. thank you so much for the responses. I've had several folks kind enough to offer help. It's really nice that as a new member to this forum, I now know that help is just a post away. I've contacted a couple of folks simply based on proximity to Silver Spring. Thank you all for your offers!
  4. Hello All. I have taken over an established saltwater reef tank with a few fish and some basic corals. It's a 75 gallon tank with 20 gallon sump, live rock, live sand, refugium...etc. It contains fish (5 small fish) a few anemones and some coral. I'm pretty new to this hobby, and though the tank has been established for over 3 years, I'm struggling to maintain good nitrate levels. In addition, I want to make sure I'm doing all the right things that give the best chance of success. I'm looking to hire someone on a consulting basis to come out to my house in silver spring once or twice a week until the levels stabilize and I have a better idea of what I'm doing. I'd like evaluation of the current setup, as well as instructions on basic maintenance, including water changes. Please contact me if you are interested and we can discuss. I'm looking to pay somewhere around $100/hour. Thanks~!
