treesprite July 4, 2010 July 4, 2010 On PVC in high light and high laminar flow? It would have to stay short, because at about 4" it would be breaching the water's surface. I'm thinking about trying to get something pretty to grow on my 4 returns to kind of make them look more like little frag things than returns. It has to be something that will hold on well enough that it won't all fall off the very second I have to change the returns' directions. Would roughening up the surface of the PVC help things to hang on better than on the slippery PVC surface?
TonyD July 4, 2010 July 4, 2010 I have blue clove polyps growing on my returns. This was not by choice. They just sprouted everywhere.

How would I get it to stay, anyway? Hey, maybe this would be an insane idea. I could put one side of some velcro on each return, and the other sides of the velcro on some little rocks with frags, that way I can just take the frags off and put back on - no problem if I need to change the directions of my returns.
zygote2k July 4, 2010 July 4, 2010 velcro will become an instant detritus trap/ chia pet. try gluing some zoas up there- get some of the dragon eyes or some other hardy type.
Jon Lazar July 4, 2010 July 4, 2010 Zoanthids or maybe xenia. An encrusting monti cap would also grow well.

I can take a picture. You could superglue a small peice of rubble rock to the return until the blue clove spreads, then remove the rubble rock.
treesprite July 4, 2010 Author July 4, 2010 Velcro only traps stuff if it's surface is exposed, not when it's connected together. The stuff on the inside half of a mag float is like the non-fuzzy side of velcro. Not xenia....

treesprite July 5, 2010 Author July 5, 2010 Those are blue clove polyps? They look sort of brown. For some reason I thought clove polyps were bigger than that.
TonyD July 6, 2010 July 6, 2010 Yes, they are blue clove polyps. They appear blue when at the bottom of the tank. But since they are on my return and closer to the MH, they do look brown for some reason. They are the same as these. Blue clove polyps
gmubeach July 6, 2010 July 6, 2010 wow I've had blue clove polyps for along time those are like brownish gold how groovy!
treesprite July 6, 2010 Author July 6, 2010 Ah I see... lighting does have a way of making things change color.
