Here's one of the maintenance tanks showing some monti and millie that have been growing nicely.

This tank is a 90 AGA RR on an inwall stand. It has a Current 2x250 HQI with 4) 54w T5 light. It has a Euroreef RS100 skimmer which works fantastic with zero mods. On the 60g acrylic sump there is a large HOB fuge. Return comes from a Panworld 100 return pump and circulation comes from a Vortech MP40. Top off provided by r/o via float valve. It gets 10% weekly w/c and daily dosing of Calcium, Alk, and Mg. No other trace elements or supplements are used.

The pictures are in order of date starting with July 08, Dec 08, Mar 09, June 09, Dec 09, and May 10.

This is the tank that had a bryopsis bloom which recently died off after 6 months of aggressive Magnesium dosing that ultimately led to 1900ppm MG. Apparently starfish are susceptible to high levels of MG because they all started dying off at around 1800ppm.

I just finished re-aquascaping to allow for more growth of the 20 pounds of monti and millie. This coral conglomeration eats Ca and Alk greedily. This tank has been a great learning experience for me and I hope to continue doing maintenance on it.

Next upgrade will be PAR38's...maybe.

Just made the switch from MH/T5 combo to PAR 38's. There are only 6 bulbs so far, there will be 8 next week. Big time vivid color change.

just finished installing the 9 bulb PAR 38 light system. I really like how this one turned out.gallery_2631654_582_281573.jpg

how come that looks so much brighter than your tank?

Added a 10th PAR 38 and an Ecoxotic 453 module for actinic.

Coral is growing extremely fast under the LED vs. MH. Look at the last post from Aug and see the difference in growth.

There's now a total of 12) P38's on this tank. I think it's about the right amount of light. The corals are growing fast.gallery_2631654_582_851788.jpggallery_2631654_582_896989.jpg

Looks very good. Is that galaxea near the bottom?

New update-

Had to remove the enormous orange montipora and brown millie to make room for other corals. SPS growing rapidly now as water chem has been relatively stable over the past year. 2 part used to be dosed by hand 2x/day and now uses 2 channel doser running continuously and half the amount of solutions. Derbesia has taken over when the Bryopsis died off. Introduction of a Two Barred Rabbitfish but it hangs out with the PJ cardinals instead of eating algae. These 2 different fish species appear to do nicely with each other on the flip side.gallery_2631654_582_740968.jpg

Oh yea, right beside the coral beauty.

Good work. That is a great tank. The growth under the LED's seems impressive. Does the anemone sting or negatively affect your monti and other corals it touches?

The anemone is a big toxic stinging coral killer. It keeps the monti at bay too.
