CHUBAKAH February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 Picked up an AC3. Hooked everything up and connected the AC3 to a router. Spent the last three hours trying to get the computer to see the AC3 with Zero luck. Can one of you guru's get me up and running?
overklok February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 (edited) What is your internal network IP range? You need to make sure your AC3 is on the same network as your router. I think by default the AC3 wants to be 192.168.1.50 for its' IP address. You need to see what your network's IP address range. Many home networks are set to use 192.168.0.xxx The AC3 by default wants to be 192.168.1.xxx You most likely need to go into the AC3 setup screen and change your network settings. Hilary February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 I had the same problem when I set mine up a couple of months ago, and John at BRK pointed out that depending on the version of your software you may need to download and install one or two updates. That fixed my issues. Check the Neptune Systems website for the updates. Oh, and and the "lite" version that comes free does not include the feature for checking status online - you have to actually buy the full version of the software (unless I totally misunderstood and just wasted a bunch of $$).
CHUBAKAH February 27, 2010 Author February 27, 2010 I actually have the aqua notes version with a serial, but have not found where I register it using the serial. Perhaps thats my problem?
Hilary February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 I actually have the aqua notes version with a serial, but have not found where I register it using the serial. Perhaps thats my problem? Could be. It didn't ask you to register during setup? I've contacted them through the website and they were great about answering questions. If you get registered and it still doesn't work be sure to compare your version # against the updates on the website.
flowerseller February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 Mark, I have an ACIIIand do not use Aquanotes. Can see, change and program mine from anywhere. Overklok's info is good. From the ACIII use the select button and then down arrow until you reach set up, hit select again, toggle down to net setup, hit select. Go in and change the IP address , netmask, gateway, DNS and all that good stuff given to you by your internet provider. You also need to set up email, text info if you want ALM messages. You also might need to unplug your router and ACIII and plug them back in to help them find each other.
bankyf February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 I needed to change some internal stuff in my router to get it working. Couldn't tell you what it was , but the router tech support helped me. Typically when I add something new like this to the router is is a painstaking several hour process and I typically end up knocking something else of the router. My network is a very delicatly balanced system, probably wouldn't be that way if I really knew what I was doing.
overklok February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 (edited) The best way to figure out your network settings, on a windows box is to go to the command prompt and type ipconfig /all. You need to write down the following: Ip address subnet mask gateway I will give you an example: IP address 192.168.0.2 Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.1 most internal NATTed home networks use the following 192.168.1.xxx 192.168.0.xxx 10.xxx.xxx.xxx Most likely you are going to need to go into the panel on the front of the AC3, using Justin's directions change the ip settings. I am going to take a guess and say make your settings: IP 192.168.0.50 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.1.1 Edited February 27, 2010 by overklok
ctenophore February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 After you get the IP address of the AC3 matching the network range used by your router, i.e., 192.168.[0 or 1].x, type its IP address in your browser to talk to the AC3's internal web server directly: http://192.168.x.50 user/pass defaults to admin/1234 Getting it visible to the internet is a bit more work. You'll need to configure your router to 'port forward' port 80 (aka http, web) to the IP address of the AC3. Then, you'll need to set up a dynamic DNS name through a site like dyndns.org. Your router should have a section called 'dynamic DNS' to enter this info. Pick a name like chubakah.dyndns.org, then just type that name in a browser any time you are away from home and your router will send your request through to the AC3. Change the default user/pass as your AC3 is now exposed to the internet. I wish this didn't have to be so difficult, but I'm unaware of any tools that make this configuration any simpler. It is worth the effort though.
CHUBAKAH February 27, 2010 Author February 27, 2010 (edited) I sure hope it is all worth it. Worked on it till 3am and it still is not working. I'm not sure I get the whole username password. I changed those thinking I would need something a little more secure however I am not sure I have that part right. I ended up using 192.168.1.107 for the IP, and if I type that in to the browser I can get a box to pop up asking for the user name and password. Problem is it never logs in using the one I created. Is there anyway to force the unit to go back to factory settings? Free Grinch Monti to the first person who wants to give me a ring and see if they can walk me through this. Pretty sure I have all of the other settings done. I hope programming this thing is a lot easier than getting the darn thing to communicate with the PC/Router set up. I am very unimpressed with it so far.... PM me for a # Edited February 27, 2010 by CHUBAKAH
dtfleming February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 Justin is right, your going to have to port foward the router...... bshriver had to help me setup mine.
DaveS February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 Change my network setting to what? I don't speak Chinese? I do speak Chinese and I can do computer stuff too. I can remote into your computer and give you hand this afternoon if you want.

overklok February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 (edited) You only need to port forward if you are trying to access the AC3 from the internet. You do not need to setup port forwarding to see the router on your internal network. Edited February 27, 2010 by overklok
overklok February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 My advice is do reset the AC3 to defaults. I believe that will reset the admin password and reset the IP to 192.168.1.50.

This thing may be for sale by the end of the day.

CHUBAKAH February 27, 2010 Author February 27, 2010 Thanks overklok for the help. For the guru's we have confirmed that I had done everything correct and my network settings are right. Seems this thing just won't take my user name or password to log in. Anyone had this issue? Better yet, anyone know how to do a reset to factory defaults?
Jon Lazar February 27, 2010 February 27, 2010 Mark, I'm a non-network savy guy, and I found this very difficult to set up. But, eventually, I got it to work and now can check my tank while on travel and receive email notifications when things are out of whack. My WAMAS signature is constantly updated, so I've even had people PM me to let me know when things look funny. I know it can be frustrating, but stick with it...it's absolutely worth the effort. The folks here on SWAMAS are great help, and if you call Curt at Neptune during the week he'll walk you through the process. Good luck, Jon
CHUBAKAH February 27, 2010 Author February 27, 2010 Thanks Jon, I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. I'm quite frustrated in the fact that I have and had done everything right, and yet this still will not work. I've got an email in to Curt, and a phone message. I'm just hoping this is not a damaged unit, and that it can be fixed. The reason I got this was for the alarm system. Last week I had a Blue Line heater control change it's settings on me automatically and defaulted to 113 degrees. By the time I got home my tank was at 96 degrees. I'm still losing corals a week later that looked like they would make it at first. That is the real frustrating part.
CHUBAKAH February 27, 2010 Author February 27, 2010 "Hi, The user nameand password you are entering do not match the username/password in thecontroller. It is set in thesetup->net setup->admin password and admin login fields. The controller most be restarted before the new password takes effect. The terminating character of the login/password must be a space. The space is the character that comes after the lower case 'z' (scroll to 'z' and pressup once - this is the space). To initialize thecontroller to the factory defaults go to the setup->init memory and do aninit all. Curt" That fixed it in 2 seconds. Now to figure out how to program this thing. Thanks for the help guys and gals
