Der ABT December 8, 2009 December 8, 2009 (edited) was away for the weekend and came back yesterday and noticed the spots, preying it isnt that word noone likes to say. Today both look alot better today and the spots are fewer/smaller on the tang and lighter on the anthias.... anyone have any ideas, they are both eating just fine and arent scratching or anything so i just dont know. the anthias was in qt for about 6 weeks while the tang was in for 4 after a two week qt at the store. hoping for a good prognosis, as i dont want to drain the tank in order to catch these two and try a hypo and 3 day change qt cure. thanks hopefully i hear from you guys soon so i can try to catch them tonight, if not it will have to wait till tomorrow. Sorry, that sure looks like ick to me. I would especially want to start treatment on the powder brown asap. If they are anything like a powder blue, they can succomb quickly.
magnetic1 December 9, 2009 December 9, 2009 Looks like ich. Were they both in QT for at least 4 weeks? 4 weeks is right on the line for amount of time in QT. Usually 4 weeks minimum seeing no spots. If you added the Tang at a separate time in QT, then you need to start the time period all over again.
Der ABT December 9, 2009 Author December 9, 2009 (edited) dangit, they were both in the qt at seperate times, ive had the tang for about 5 weeks now and this is the first sign of ick, ive had the anthias for about 7 weeks. and no other fish added lately, thanks guys for the quick response, i knew it was but was hoping it was just acne, this is my first time in like 8 years having ick, just not fair, its goign to be a LAAATTTEE night. they look so much better today i was tempted to just leave it but id rather have the fish live. oh well. i dont get it, 7 weeks nothing and now this........hope i caught it early enough, all parameters have been stable so not sure what caused it. Mountaineer December 9, 2009 December 9, 2009 As I recall (and I may be wrong) the lifecycle of cryptocaryon irritans (marine ich) is 8 weeks. If you don't QT for at least 8 weeks you may not see it show signs on your fish.
Mountaineer December 9, 2009 December 9, 2009 I was off a bit on the times, but here is an article from Advanced Aquarist that may be helpful for you. Good luck. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/dec2003/mini2.htm
zygote2k December 9, 2009 December 9, 2009 Why not just leave the fish in the DT? The ick is already in the tank- catching the fish will more than likely cause the ick to break out worse than it already is.

The ick is already in the tank- catching the fish will more than likely cause the ick to break out worse than it already is. +1 Ich outbreaks are caused or exacerbated by stress. When I got Ich a couple of years ago, I just fed the fish well with PE mysis soaked in Selcon and Garlic. I only lost two fish - the one that brought the ich home from the store with him (kole tang), and one other that never showed any signs of having it. bob
reefhunter December 9, 2009 December 9, 2009 feed garlic flake and nori to the tang... not sure what the small fish eats.. but chasing them and putting them in a smaller tank will make it worse...
Der ABT December 9, 2009 Author December 9, 2009 feed garlic flake and nori to the tang... not sure what the small fish eats.. but chasing them and putting them in a smaller tank will make it worse... hhaha all the reading i did said to treat em in the DT and not to leave em in the display but i really thought about just seeing how it goes, i chewawa, well they are both in the QT for now, hopefully all works out. aquascaping is new though. wish i had waited ten or twenty minutes and then decided to just leave it alone, im kicking myself as itwas a pain and i just hope i didnt loose any coral as that will reallllly frustrate me more, well thanks for the input guys.

I'm a fan of QTing. I would have done the same. Now you can lower the salinity to ~1.009 in QT, which you couldn't do in the display. You can lower it immediately, but bring it back up over the course of several days.
davelin315 December 10, 2009 December 10, 2009 I would have left them, too. I have ich in my system and the fish periodically will display a spot here or there, but their immune systems are healthy and they suppress it rather quickly. The healthier the diet and the better the water quality, the less likely it is that they will be stressed and so hence the less likely their immune system will be depressed enough to allow ich to kill them or even inconvenience them. One thing, though, your anthias looks really emaciated from that angle. The head is much larger (at least it looks like it is) than the body and this is a sign of undernourishment. Not sure of your experience with anthias, but they need to eat a couple times if not constantly throughout the day.
Der ABT December 10, 2009 Author December 10, 2009 (edited) Yeh i notice the fish getting skinny last week and my autofeeder had stopped working, so he was only getting fed twice when i got home at 6 and again at 930. I am getting a new one tomorrow as i have off so hopefully that will change soon. I get to start telecommuting so that will help this issue even more. thanks for asking though its amazing how much you guys notice and offer advice rather then insulting, really appreciate this forum for that. I think its a really good reason for everyone to put up tank pics/updates etc, not to mention its fun to get ideas from others. the fish are doing just fine right now, they are in a 5 gal bucket as i had no other option but i think it should do fine, just put some pvc in there for them to sleep and all. Doesnt seem to have gotten any worse from the transfer so i am very happy with that, and they still have a big appetite, though they are a little more scared of me now, just as i was gaining their trust BOOM i turn there world upside down. Didnt realize you could take the salinty down right away, ive beein slowly lowering it. updates wil continue thanks for all the comments/help see you guys saturday Edited December 10, 2009 by Der ABT
