I have couple of ORA frags I bought maybe 6 months ago. Some grow well (Bird of Paradise, Hawkins, Rosco) some don't. Maybe someone who knows SPS well can provide some helpful tips.

The Red Planet has not gain any new branch. In fact, the existing branches might have shrunk little bit. The base is encrusted to the surrounding rock in good 1-2 inches. Should I just wait and see don't make any change?

The Pearlberry does gain many branches but no polyps, at least too small to see them. :) Too much light?

They both are sit high in the tank under T5.

My pearlberrys do have polyps. I keep them at the top. They are more lighter purple than the ones I see at the store though.

My Red planet is in the middle of the tank and they do grow...

Just try moving them around and flows. They are both in the middle of the tank between 2 MP40's.

some Corals can take time to get adjusted to your tank..once it does it will just take off and grow like crazy..u can't expect every coral to grow at the same pace..try moving it around in different flow and lighting conditions..

In my case the Perlberry took forever to adjust, but once it did it grows well and has polyps. I have it 14" from 250watt MH's.

I've watched two RP's just die off for no known reason.

What kind of flow do you have? I know my red planet's growth rate took off when I increased the flow.

I have moderate flow in my entire tank. 150G with two Koralia 4 and an external Little Giant return pump.

My pearlberry is growing very well. It's about 12 inches down in an area with very good flow. Good polyps and good extension at night, too. My red planet encrusts rapidly. It's about 5-6 inches down. The branches that were there from the start continue to grow larger, but I'm still waiting for the "real" branching to begin - especially from all the large encrusted base. The flow in this area is fairly strong, too.

I think it is the T5 they don't like. :) I am thinking changing mine.

T5's.

7 x 80 Watts, plus 1 160-Watt VHO Actinic.

My pearlberry has been slow to do anything - but my Red Planet has encrusted very well - and is starting to grow some branches. It is still on its frag plug. I have to pick it up once in a while to stop it encrusting onto the frag rack.

I got 8 T5s. The color of the recommended combo selection from reefgeek is terrible.

My current lighting, front-to-back, goes as follows

Giesemann (G.) Actinic +

ATI Aquablue Special

G. Actinic +

ATI Pro Color

VHO Super Actinic

G. 6000K Midday

G. Aquablue +

G. Actinic +

This selection was based on this mapping provided by the T5 Q&A thread over at RC: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...461&page=41 (I think it was Garrett who steered me in that direction for advice from Grim Reefer.)

This was the suggested mapping. However, I had a bunch of extra Giesemann's so I made substitutions where I thought things fit best.

ATI Blue Plus

ATI Aquablue

ATI Blue Plus

ATI Pro Color

VHO Super Actinic

GE 6500K

ATI Aquablue

ATI Blue Plus

In the future, I may be shifting over toward using ATI bulbs and maybe pushing for a little more blue than I currently have. I've also got a Fiji Purple on hand that I've not yet tried as a substitute for the Pro Color lamp.

I also had the actinic+ as the bookends and was not impressed with them and substituted them with the Blue plus and I think they look better.

Thanks for that. It makes me feel more confident that I'll move in that direction in the future. I just couldn't toss new bulbs though, you know?

Have you checked for red bugs or other pests? Just a thought...

That has never crossed my mind since other corals are growing well.

I saw this today in RC. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1730357

Amazing red planet growth. The base is so green, mine is no near than that. I also saw one last week at the Marine Scene in their display tank. The base is a dark green. I think it is because their Radium bulb. :)
