Ouch! sorry to hear. Before you panic even more, go to home depot, buy a rubbermaid trash can and put everything in there. Any nearby LFS should have some salt water on hand. I'd offer you some but I am far and currently have none made up.

The corals will be fine, throw some wet paper towels over them, they should be okay for a day or so.

Ron,

Relax, I'm sure some guys here could and will lend you a hand to take care of the livestock should you need it.

If you need to borrow a tank, I have a spare 40g and some PHs. Won't be able to make it out there until tomorrow though.

Hey everyone thanks for the offers of help. I think I am just gonna turn this in to very special version of SWAP. If you come over gehet and get coral, I may ask for a frag in a few months.

Background....

My wife and I decided to buy a house back in March. We found the house but had to wait for the short sale to get apporved...it didn't. While we were waitng our landlords agreed to let us out of our lease early and rented the place out for 1 Jul. 1 Jun we found ourselves without a house and needed to find temporary lodging. So the last week of Jun I moved from a three story TH in to a two bed apt. Not fun

So I set up my frag tank at the apt and tranferred all the coral to it. The following day I emptied the solana. Took out all the sand and went bb so as nto release nasties into the water column once I set it back up. I was able to use about 15gal of old water the rest was new. I made the transfer last week...and promptly left for a short vacation. I got back home on 5 Jul and found only the six line wrasse was MIA. Pretty good survival rate I thought. most of the coral looked pretty good too. THEN...

I got a call at work from the apt office telling me my downstairs neighbors had water in their place. Great. Another call five minutes later confirmed my worse fear. So I get home from work to see the tank completly empty. Teh maintenance guys put the fish in containers but the coral are just sitting onthe bottom. I had not made any water yet so there is nothing I can do at the moment.

Holy Crap that is horrible! I wish I could help out and save some corals but you live too far away. I hope everything turns out OK. So what exactly happened to make the tank lose all of its water?

I can help you out and have frag tank where I can hold you stuff for time being but I leave work at 5pm and have to go home pick up buckets etc to get them. let me know if you still need help by 6ish or so if no one comes to rescue.

you can call me also.. sending you my phone via PM.

wow... sorry to hear that. I can help out as well... but won't be out of work and home till at least 6pm. Let me if you need me to help out in any way. I think you have my contact info already, but if not... i'll pm it over to you.

Thanks eveyone for the offer of help.

jan just left. She dropped off a tupperware tub and some water so now all the coral are at least wet.

Valeria has offered up some space in her tanks at home. So I am off to drop off the rest of the coral and a couple of fish.

That takes care of all of the livestock. Again thanks to everyone that offered help. WAMAS ROCKS!!

Ron,

I have a 40g breeder tank that is set up and mature if you want to store any of your corals. If not, let me know if I can do anything else to help. I'm pretty close to you.

Steve

Any idea how or why the tank broke?

I my only guess is I stressed the panes somehow when I moved it last week. It up fine for the past week then ker-plooie!

Wow I am sorry I hadn't seen this. I have tons of space and am not that far. If you need any help and still have stuff that needs to be put in aquariums I am off tomorrow and would be happy to make room for your stuff. Send me a PM if you still need help.

I've considered the 'nightmare scenario' ... my 240 springing a big leak in the bottom and losing all of its water. I could mix up some water with my well water real quick - but man that is a lot of coral and rock to store in a bunch of trash cans full of saltwater! Having three different systems - I could at least temporarily house the fish; but some of the corals ONLY fit in a large tank.

A bathtub will also work in an emergency. If you have to, you can fill it with tapwater, add salt and dechlorinator, and you've just bought yourself some time.

Not if there is any soap residue. I wouldn't attempt to use the bath tub even in an emergency.

wow, sorry to hear this. I will offer you a few free corals for when you are back in the clear and hope everything utrns out ok for you and your family.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the help.

Next steps for me....

Buy a house is first on the list. Shortly thereafter is getting the 120 I bought out of storage and setting it up! Probably Aug-Sep if I am lucky. I will keep you posted.
