Make sure you have an Auto-top off installed first to keep the salinity stable and water level good for safe operation. Then install an automatic fish feeder set to 24 hr increments. I'd say your good for a 5 day vacation 7 days would be pushing it to the max.
YBeNormal March 21, 2009 March 21, 2009 Even with the best of automation, things can go wrong and it's a good idea to have a trusted, experienced reefer drop by to check on things. Most of us have developed friendships with WAMAS members that live close by and almost all of us are more than willing to help out a fellow WAMAS member.
jason the filter freak March 21, 2009 March 21, 2009 definately find sdome on wamas to check up on your tank and have an emergncy contact
Hilary March 24, 2009 March 24, 2009 I have a neighbor who feeds my birds and the fish when I'm gone, and I leave her a list of numbers to call if anything looks, smells, or sounds funny. She won't notice a missing fish or a coral that fell in the sand, but can add water to the topoff and call somebody if a pump malfunctions.
Almon March 24, 2009 March 24, 2009 Yes, definitely have someone checking on your tank while you are away. We have a friend come to the house once a day to feed all of the animals. I also line up a wamas member that is close that I can call if necesary. Definitely have someone (reliable) checking on your tank while you are away.
reefhunter March 24, 2009 March 24, 2009 I just recently went away for 10 days. The day I got back my main return pump failed and it would have killed many corals had I not been home. Even if this had happened and someone told me it would have been very difficult to diagnose and fix (remove main pump and clean). Have someone stop by daily... or have an AC3 to alert you...
