Vinegar bath

I have never used vinegar before in my reef for cleaning, etc.

I have placed about 150lbs of aiptasia infested live rock in the sun for 2 weeks now. I plan to kill any remaining trace of aiptasia with a vinegar bath. I also plan to give the new DAS skimmer I just ordered a vinegar bath too.

 

Do you just use any type vinegar ? How much do you have to rinse after the vinegar to ensure that none of it makes it to the tank ?

Use plain white vinegar. I've never soaked rock, but as far as the skimmer, a good rinsing afterward is all that is required. Don't worry about getting excess vinegar into the tank, it is a carbon source and people (myself included) have intentionally added it to tanks either directly, or indirectly in limewater.

I have been using Heinz Distilled Vinegar from Costco to clean my equipment of deposits. Never treated any liverock with it though.

With live rock, rinsing it with real good with water is all that you need. save your vinegar for regular cleaning of your pumps, etc.

I would not recommend soaking a rock in vinegar. Vinegar is used to clean calcium deposits from equipment.

You may find vinegar may melt your rock.... not completely but some
