I asked my dad to get me some Levamisol the other day and when he asked the pharmacist at his hospital, he was told that it is no longer available on the market and has been pulled. Anyone know of this and the reasons why? I wonder if some long term studies have come up that indicate that it's counterproductive for people, and so I also wonder if it's not appropriate to use in a reef situation any longer to deworm.

I bought some a year or two ago at a farmers coop, in Culpeper. Never used it, due to the fact that i was not comfortable with the lack of info on it......You can try them, its just called farmers co op.

It's too harsh to use anyway. Try using coral revive or tropic marin pro coral cure. Not sure on the effectiveness on nudis though.

I totally disagree with that. If you found it harsh on the coral, you were not accurately making the dip. I have a recipe listed in the pinned thread here that works and is easy to make. The dip is not iodine based so you can see what is in the bottom of your dippin bucket.

I use it with every frag I get....

Ask them what the new recommended drug is for swine. Tell them you need to treat for Large Roundworms, Nodular Worms, Lungworms and Intestinal Threadworms. I'm covered for a few years but would be happy to help test.

I checked several internet sites and noticed that many of them show the product as being on back order. One of them said, "Indefinite Backorder - We Cannot Take Orders For This Item". I placed an order with QC Supply and will see if they are able to deliver.

There is probably another derivative out there. My sister (vet) has talked about others used for the same. May not be a powder. I'm sure there is some out there experimenting. The powder just lasts longer.

Many thought this was the ingredient in Flatworm Exit. If the company goes under, then we may know. :)

I received a call from QC Supply the day after I placed the order. They said that the manufacturer is having difficulty obtaining one of the key ingredients and that the product is on indefinite back order.

It does look like this product is off the market, at least for now. Tramisol is the same product (Levamisole Hydrochloride (10%)) marketed as a pig dewormer and it also appears to be out of stock everywhere with no orders being taken. I've had no luck finding anything on the web explaining why tehse products are off the shelves though.

I looked again and found an article that says that it's limited in the US but supplies are available in Canada and have been for a long time. This was an older article, from 2004, though, so it may no longer be valid. Must be all of the demand from reefers! I also just tried to place an order, we'll see if there's anything there.

If they have it and you don't want to make the trip, I can grab it and ship it at cost.

Tractor Supply has it available online and says that it has been shipped to me. I'm guessing that means they have it in stock, so stock up while you can if it's not available any longer!

Dave,

did you manage to get ahold of the levamisole? I've been looking and it seems that rumors are true... can't be found in Canada anymore either.

Well, this cant be a good thing, for our frags, anyways. :(

I did get it from Tractor Supply, but I just checked and it's no longer available from them online, I'd call the store to see if they still carry it.

A good friend of mine works at The National Inst. of Health and works in the lage animal ICU and he is going to check there pharmacy to see if they have any. He has also going to look into something called Panacur (Fenbendazole) or any drug in the

Well my friend got back to me today and this is what he has found out... Looks like that powder he was telling me about was Fenbendazole. It takes care of ascarids (roundworms) including the threadworms, it is also effective against the flatworms too. This is also a good broad spectrum dewormer , so that you can preserve the bacterial flora within your coral. Another product is called Ivermectin. This drug comes in an injectable form, it is a thick oily solution (NOT SURE THAT IS GOOD??) . One problem is that Ivomec is light sensitive so long exposure to light can deactivate the medication. This is a very common drug (it is the active ingredient in Heartgard the heartworm preventative) you want the bovine form which would be easy to mix in water. Please keep in mind that he has no idea what these products will do to coral, so try it out on something small at first. He could not find any of that Levamisol in his cabinets, but said to look for both those drugs at the
