I currently don't have enough movement in my tank and looking to upgrade soon!

Currently I have my 1" SeaSwirl hooked up to my MAG18, but alot of flow is being cut off with Ball Valves distributed to my UV Sterilizer, GreySeas Media Reactor and Frag tanks 1" SS. So not alot of flow there!

I'm getting soon Mohsin's MAG24 and plan to upgrade there to increase flow more to both tanks.

Inside the tank and this is where I want to add flow, I have (2) MJ1200 (225gph) and (1) Tunze Nano 6025 (660gph) with (1) Seio M1500. The Seio works great but I need to swap ends with it currently on the front of my Acrylic Tank and has grooved the panes, PLUS the 1500gph just sucked against the in-take my CopperBand!

PLAN A:

#1 Take out the (2) MJ

#2 Move Seio to back wall of tank

#3 Add either one of the MJ or (1) Koralia 2 to be placed about 1/2 way down the tank BEHIND the rocks to push more flow through the rocks.

#4 Add with Magnetic either a Koralia 3/4 or Tunze 6045 to opposite corners to increase tank flow.

Suggestions?

PLAN B:

Continue to fight my slow spots allowing Cyanobacteria to try to take over my tank and hinger my SPS growth!

-Don't want plan b! :lol2:

BTW, I tried the MJ1200 Mods and shot blasted my tank and pushed all the sand away, so 2200gph will not work either! :lol2:

Put SurefLo kits on the MJ1200s. That will give you lots of flow, and in a better pattern than unmodded MJs.

I'll stick with MJ1200 and purchase the sureflo mod kit + sure grip magnet. Performance is way ....... better than Koralia, much more powerful and taking up much less space than Koralia. 2 of MJ1200 mod are better than 3 Koralia 4. I am able to reduce 1 less Koralia 4 and the tank looks less cluttering with powerheads.

In fact, I am in the process of converting back to MJ1200 mod from current Koralia.

Howard: You can swing by my place and get the Koralia to try out and see how it looks in your tank. It might look clutter with a 48" length.

3 stand out points with MJ option:

- Very reliable powerhead

- Kick butts performance with the mod kit

- Save money since you already have the MJ.

If the MJ1200 prop kits were too much flow, try MJ900 or even MJ400s. Put them on magnets near the bottom and angle them up, that way the sand will stay put and you'll get better diagonal bottom-to-top water movement too.

Howard-

I've had good (low-cost) luck with my 4x MJ1200's and RS Wave Master Pro. I've got the "fine" aragonite too, and while sand DOES shift, its nothing that will topple a frag plate or rock. Typically I keep it on the cycle that cycles through the other three cycles every four hours.

My major complaint is the powerhead's relative ugliness, and lack of magnet holders (which are available, but cost like $20 each). So perhaps some Koralia nano's instead, and a rotating sea-squirt instead? I'd say go with the Koralia powerhead controller, but the darn thing is like 300 bucks... and it only controls 2 powerheads.

Why not just remove the UV the media reactor from the Mag18 and get 2 MJ to run those guys? You can run the returns back to your sump and let the Mag do all the 'flow control'. Also, I'd get the Mag24 anyways.

btw. Are you running your Mag 18 inline or insump? Just curious. My Mag 5 leaks like a siv, so I have to use it insump.

I like this e c o n o m i c a l suggestion. So far I'm leaning in this direction on my NAGA tank almost the same as yours.

I've setup and used the MJ1200 mod and the dang thing was noisy as H377!!!

I went ahead and got the MJ900, but haven't tried it yet and debating seriously if I want too now!

I'm leaning towards (2) Tunze Turbelle NanoStream Pump 6045 1189gph: TZ1213 $90.19 on each corner blowing in different directions, Seio on back (right) wall blowing to front left corner, putting a MJ about 1/2 way down tank in rear right blowing through rocks and upgrading 1" SS flow with bigger return using the MAG24. See any issues?

Sure you used the right propeller? If you use the wrong size, it makes a horrible racket.

If the mod kit is not the sureflo mod kit (the newer mod that AQUACO or marine depot is carrying) then I have no idea.

What I do know is the SureFlo mod kit works super quiet and the early generation no name mod kit came from one of the website (forgot), was selling for $20 about 1 year 1 month ago, came in plastic bag instead of nice commercial printed box like the SureFlo, then that kit makes lots of noisy with the propeller switching back and forth in reverse motion.

I still have two of those laying on the basement, no used. Hate it.

I was thinking of going with the MJMods/Sureflow instead of the Koralia because I heard they were quieter???

Came with the kit, bought 2 of them a while ago, proabably earlier versions that was on the ReefChili website I believe! Sounds like a rattle trap!!

NEVER USED MJ KIT FOR SALE!

GET THEM WHILE THERE HOT!!!

The Reefchili website version is a very first generation, rowdy propeller. I have those Howard. That version is no where comparable to the SureFlo version.

howard, come by the house this weekend, will show you what I did....also, why not mod the tunze(s) you currenlty have. really increases flow out of the 6025s and have figured out how to prevent them from spinning the wrong way.

I would get 3 Hydor Koralia pumps..

great pumps..i am using 2 on my 29x29x20 tank..

Hydor Koralia 4 Circulation Pump/Powerhead UL 1200 gph HD19401: $44.99

Thanks Moga!

BTW, 78 post, dude join the club! :lol2:

What about a close loop?

I have a 1200 and 900 both of them with the magnet and Sureflo kit and love them.

Way better flow than the Koralias. So I second the opinions of those who advised on the MJs.

You are welcome to come over and take a look.

BTW, I have never owned a Tunze so I can't speak of their performance.
