Do you care sharing brand, age and condition of the heater? I would like to know. Anyone who had heater failures or fire caused by a heater do you care to post the information I requested for future reference or to see if there is a manufacturer trend that we should stay away from?

Have an Eheim for 5+ years.

Fairly accurate, and always reliable.

The heater that malfunctioned was a Hydor AGA 200W. Unsure how old, as it came with a bunch of aquarium supplies from Ebay.

Other 4 Stealth heaters, 150W to 250W. The oldest is 2 years. No problems at all.

On yeah, one Ebo-Jager TS-100, 100W, less than 2 years. No problems.

this is a great thread. I don't usually use heaters at home, but eventually am going to have to buy some

I have 5 eheim 200W heaters and 1 100W eheim heater. The 200W been running for over 2 years now. My cousins had their 200W heaters for as long as 15 years with no problem.

I have 1 Pro Heat II 300W titanium heater that I bought from Bruce and it's been working fine with no problem.

I had 1 150W stealth heater that shattered on me one day while it was inside my discus tank. Scared the jeebees out of me.

I had 1 100W visitherm heater that fluctuates by as much as 15 degree on any given day even when the ambient temp was fairly constant. It ultimately cooked one of my sick discus.

I just got 2 new Ebo-Jager 250w heaters since the one that had been in my sump was pver 5 years old.

My W/C heater is a 100w green Ebo-Jager that is about 15

STAY AWAY FROM THE WON TITANIUM HEATERS. I HAD ONE AND IT CAUGHT FIRE IN MY SUMP.

I now only use CSA certified heaters.

Ebo-jager (Eheim) - 10yrs no issues, currently used as a spare (WC heater)

Visi-therm - 5+ years no issues

"Stealth" - 5+ years no issues

I've had 3 WON Heaters and that have run great for years, except one unit that was in a temporary PLASTIC sump, that melted the sides and then burnt up win no water around it! ...it was on the floor! :(

BAD!: 1 Theo Hydor 100 w heater lass than a year old- almost caught fire; burned up an outlet. Don't want to think about the what if my husband hadn't seen the "flashing lights" or how he could have been done in when he pulled it out of the wall to get it to stop burning.... Makes you stop and give thanks to God who promises to watch over us!

I had a heater explode in my sump. Nothing crashed on to it. It was a defective item. I'm not sure what the name is so if someone from Aquarium One recognizes this and can pm me, I'll edit and add the name.
