dmx March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 Apologies in advance if this is not the right forum. Wanted to see if anyone can id this. Got it from an LFS. It's got mustard coloration and blue polyps. No coralites(?) so not an acro but a monti? Maybe a monti australiensis or danae. What was intriguing was the uniformity of the pillar like growth. http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?act=...si&img=3784
ReeferMan March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 Looks like a monti danae. I have seen them grow like that. Nice peice
vaironman March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 Montipora danae. This is only a guess. If it came from a wild batch, the larvae probably landed on a dead trumpet LPS and encrusted on it. If it came from aquaculture, someone have mounted on a trumpet coral skeleton and it keeps growing on it. From time to time, BRK and MrCoral brings this type of species in and it normally encrusted on a flat rock, just like most montipora danae we typically see. White to yellow base and blue polyps. Neat.

Neat. I was thinking the same thing

Neat. Aah!! Makes total sense. The owner did say it was from the wild. Thanks!
