Larry Grenier March 12, 2008 March 12, 2008 (edited) I already asked about getting one of those basic piece-o-plastic on a stick scrapers but what about a magnet scraper? (I plan on using both) The acrylic is 1/2" thick. What do you folks use and/or recommend. Thanks Edited March 12, 2008 by Larry Grenier
NAGA March 13, 2008 March 13, 2008 Larry, I'd just use one of the Magnavore magnets for 1/2" acrylic. I would just load up on extra pads when you get one. This in conjunction with one of those plastic scrapers should serve well. Jeff
gmubeach March 13, 2008 March 13, 2008 my nano jbj came with a magnetic scrapper just don't use one for glass and don't get it anywhere near the sandbed:)
Grav March 13, 2008 March 13, 2008 (edited) I really like the Magnavore ER 6. Extended reach, strong, and it floats. The 8 and 10 are good, you can really scrub 3/4 well with them, but don't have the extended reach, and may be overkill for 1/2. Edited March 13, 2008 by Grav
ErikS March 13, 2008 March 13, 2008 I'll go against the flow, I've used both the Magnavore 6 & the Algae Free Great White - both scratched the tank. As does the Kent "Pro Scratcher" when used on the long handle. I've only found a process that keeps from scratching - 1) doubled up acrylic safe pad on the inside magnet, used by hand 2) Scrub more stubborn stuff with a Dobie (kitchen aisle, 2 pack 3M product) 3) Scrape coraline spots with the red blade from the Kent unit FWIW - I have 3/4" thick acrylic which requires heavy duty magnets, these heavier magnets may be the cause of problems I've had.
stevearlen March 15, 2008 March 15, 2008 (edited) We now use http://www.pentairaquatics.com/products/de...algae_pads.html . (We used to use a magfloat, http://www.magfloat.net/telas/pagina.php?id=5&idc=3, but a few bits of sand grit got stuck in the cleaner and scratched the tank.) Edited March 15, 2008 by stevearlen
