I already asked about getting one of those basic piece-o-plastic on a stick scrapers but what about a magnet scraper? (I plan on using both) The acrylic is 1/2" thick. What do you folks use and/or recommend.

Thanks

Larry,

I'd just use one of the Magnavore magnets for 1/2" acrylic. I would just load up on extra pads when you get one. This in conjunction with one of those plastic scrapers should serve well.

Jeff

my nano jbj came with a magnetic scrapper just don't use one for glass and don't get it anywhere near the sandbed:)

I really like the Magnavore ER 6. Extended reach, strong, and it floats.

The 8 and 10 are good, you can really scrub 3/4 well with them, but don't have the extended reach, and may be overkill for 1/2.

I'll go against the flow, I've used both the Magnavore 6 & the Algae Free Great White - both scratched the tank. As does the Kent "Pro Scratcher" when used on the long handle.

I've only found a process that keeps from scratching -

1) doubled up acrylic safe pad on the inside magnet, used by hand

2) Scrub more stubborn stuff with a Dobie (kitchen aisle, 2 pack 3M product)

3) Scrape coraline spots with the red blade from the Kent unit

FWIW - I have 3/4" thick acrylic which requires heavy duty magnets, these heavier magnets may be the cause of problems I've had.
