Any recommendations for a good in-sump skimmer, suitable for a 75G?

The one major constraint is that is has to have a footprint of 6" x 8" or less.

Any advice appreciated,

Thx,

-R

Robert,

6x8... ouch. You may have to look at a skimmer with an internal pump a la the bk minis but even the smallest is 7.1" square... and a bit over 400.

Is there anyway you can go with an external skimmer as opposed to in sump?

G.

Grey Seas makes the best all around. Will any of his fit that space?

Nope, this is my "display" tank, in the living room....everything has to go under the stand.

I would love to go with GSA, have heard nothing but good things about them.

A Tunze 9010 seems ideal, but it's a bit out of my price range.

I thought you said $400? The Tunze 9010 is well under $400.

Once again I misspoke...I was just quoting Tom with the message thread title *sigh*

I am hoping to find a decent skimmer for less. My 75G seems pretty happy with the cheap-o BakPak.

So why fix what's not broken? Inevitable urge to upgrade, I guess.

You could do the mesh mod on the maxijet feed pump. I remember reading about it somewhere, can't remember.

I have an ASM G-1X on my 72g and I am very happy with it. Use the savings from the skimmer to buy a bigger sump so it will fit.

James, I did the MJ mod as suggested on CPR's site...and what a difference. Brought a crappy low-rent skimmer into the modern age.

Txaggies, with all that savings, maybe I can buy a bigger sump, and a bigger stand, and a bigger tank.

Seems like good reefer logic to me :)

Yes, indeed this is a major constraint. Not sure if there is such a small skimmer that will provide a good performance for you in return.

Just from the footprint standpoint, as Jamesbuff mentioned, it looks like Tunze will be your choice. Here is the link to all available products, pick your model and then search for price.

The shorty GSA will not fit his required dimension can be found in Dandy's thread for GSA. It's definitely at least a couple inches larger on the width.

Thx vaironman and everyone else for the advice....doesn't seem like there is a good, cheap solution. Maybe if I get a big tax refund I'll go for the Tunze :)

Cheers,

I personally have a red sea turbo berlin on the side of my sump,

it wouldnt fit in so I used it as a hang on.

my sump isn't covered

My sump has intake/skimmer, refuge (LR / chaeto, return)

It's a 30g long, diy project.

At Dan's suggestion for my 30 gal with a 20 gal sump, I use a Tunze nano skimmer. The thing is so small that I didn't think it would do anything, but it works like Dan said it would.
