lanman November 7, 2007 November 7, 2007 Okay - in another thread, I think we determined that I'm not going to build my own. What all will I need to include in my AC-III budget: AC-III..................$400 (Includes one temperature probe) DC-8....................$175 pH probe...............$45 What else should I have to go with this thing? bob
jamal November 7, 2007 November 7, 2007 well you will likely need another dc 8. maybe an orp probe if you plan to run ozone. also if you have dsl internet you will need a game server
lanman November 7, 2007 Author November 7, 2007 well you will likely need another dc 8. maybe an orp probe if you plan to run ozone. also if you have dsl internet you will need a game server I'm not so sure about the second DC-8. I intend to use mostly T-5's; what all do I need to control? Game server? Please expand on that... bob
flowerseller November 8, 2007 November 8, 2007 Get a second DC8, you'll be sorry soon enough if you don't. Get 2 pH probes if you plan to run a Ca reactor. This way you can control the effluent pH via the solenoid and the ACIII. The solenoid is connected to a DC8 port. I made a cat5e cable from my ACIII to our router. If you can't do that neatly and easily, you'll need a game server to log into the ACIII and become wireless. Get some of our program codes and look them over so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Here's my current configuration. jamesbuf November 8, 2007 November 8, 2007 Can you just plug the AC III into a hub which is wired to the router? And bob, why are you posting the DC8 at that price? I would definitely get 2 since you're getting a discount with the group buy. Everyone I've spoken to said that those outlets fill up faster than you would think, especially when you get into calcium reactors, kalk reactors, fans, etc.
jamal November 8, 2007 November 8, 2007 like chip and i said. you will thank us especially if you are getting a discount. i have a light fixture with moonlights and thats 4 already. it fills up FAST

jamal November 8, 2007 November 8, 2007 that brings up something i was thinking about. i have a dsl connection but my controller is near a wireless access point not a router. there is only a usb connection so i imagine my connection would only work with a game adapter? sorry for the hijack but i figured it was a good question for others

My tank is in the basement and my router is upstairs in the office. Fortunately there is a wired hub I installed in the basement a couple years ago and its only about 15 feet from my tank. As long as its wired, and not wireless, its basically plug and play right?

People are saying "game server" - I think what they mean is a "wireless bridge" IF you have wireless in your house. If you can get a hard connection to the ACIII, that's a whole lot better - but using a wireless bridge is much easier depending on where your tank is. This is what you would want: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c...d=2791006014B01 Follow the directions for setup, link to your wireless network. It's pretty painless.

jason the filter freak November 8, 2007 November 8, 2007 ACIII on reefcentral... I woulda bought this alread but I don't have the money on hand http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...hreadid=1245629
Brian Ward November 8, 2007 November 8, 2007 Here's an article about ORP if you want to find out about it. Most people aren't trying to run ozone right now, but you can use it as an indicator of the overall health of your system. If your ORP gets out of whack, there's probably something else wrong. I have an ORP probe - I find it interesting. ORP is usually between 250 & 300 but it's always something you can add on later. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-12/...ature/index.php
six-line November 8, 2007 November 8, 2007 Hi All, Have a quick question I have an AC JR, how much of these functionalities are include in the AC JR? I have had it for a while and haven't messed with setting up. I got it used off RC and there was no user manual included. Thanks.
