This is a new members tank setup. Tank is 72"x36"x30" on a steel stand

Here are some pics of the plumbing and electrical that was done recently. I made an acrylic reccessed box for some plumbing lines that go into the basement. There is a drain line for water to go down for water changes via pump. There are two other lines that can be used for a chiller loop that if needed the chiller will be in the basement area (unfinished basement) There is a 1/4" water line from where the RO water comes in on.

Here is a picture of the steel stand made with 1.5" square steel and coated with bedliner spray (very tough stuff) The stand sits on what is called "horse mat" which seems to be a 3/4" thick rubber mat that is very heavy/tough and looks like its made from recycled tires. Anyway it makes for a great pad for the tank setup to sit on as it is a great insulator for vibrations and floor protector

Tracy,

the Doc's tank is running smoothly and is going through his brown diatom phase. He is on well water and when we initially filled the tank up it was done with well water so I expect the diatom phase to last a bit longer than usual. I did just put in a large pair of Vlamingi Tangs that are beautiful. I am going to update that thread in a day or two with some pics.

Jason, thanks...............I did beef it up a bit :) I wanted to keep it as open as possible given everything that is being put in the sump.

Jeff,

AWESOME WORK SIR!!!

You probably will already do this, but I would glue THREADED fittings in case you need to move/remove them later for the wall plumbing! Great idea with the water box! :)

STILL LOVING MY TANK!

GREAT JOB AGAIN!!!

Howard

I never understood the aquamedics for top off. Never had problems with them? Deltec, Red dragons, bubble kings,.... then aquamedics? Just curious.

The Aquamedics have done well for me. They are not a real quality unit but are readily available. Of the dozen or so that i have put on I have had one give me a problem. I have found that you really just have to be careful how you install it. They don't take much abuse and if not cared for while installing you can easily have problems. I have seen many times people complain about them not being reliable.

Deltec equipment I have had fantastic results with. However if I were to pic one piece of equipment that they could use some improving on it's their Calcium Reactors. The rest of the product line works great as I do not get phone calls on them. Red Dragon pumps I have had a couple of problems with. Very annoying issues when they do come up but, when they are funning they are by far the best. Knock on wood the last several I have put on have been great. PCO1988 has had problems twice over on the same pump. Each time though that it was sent back and repaired/adjusted it came back in just a day or two. So the service was quick but, it's hard to argue they are worth it when the price one pays is so steep and only then to have to deal with pumps that need to be sent back. The Bubble King skimmers I have had zero issues with. Fantastic performer!!!

Mostly the issue I have had with them was the "wheel" in the middle not starting up after shut off. Would give a little manual turn and it would start again. Just thought that with the sometimes ridiculous costs sometimes involved with this hobby, the step up to a higher end wouldbe worth it.

That problem does exist with the Aquamedics. Generally I have found that to be the case when the unit is brand new and the hose that it is running against puts up the most resistance then. After it has run it for a while it is fine. I initially let mine run continiously for at least 48 hours so that it break in that hose. That way it won't have an opportunity to start up on a new stiff hose where the resistance is at it's maximum.

I am the proud owner of this system. Jeff has been invaluable in making this project a reality. He does exceptional work. After 2 years of planning, it will be thrilling to see it up and running. Thank you to all of you who freely share your knowledge. More to come.

Well congrats. You look like you have set yourself up for success with the planning and equip.

Seahawk -- welcome! And when's the tank tour? (ha!)

Jeff -- Holy moly! Looking forward to see more. And nice idea on the wall trim for the plumbing. I've been trying to figure out how to trim out the pipes I have out my own wall (still just a big hole in the drywall), and I think you've inspired me :-)

Great work!

Matt

Welcome! When you do something, you sure do it right! I am sure Jeff will make all that extensive planning pay off beautifully. Look forward to seeing the progress!!

Thanks for the comments everyone. John (Seahawk) has had this tank in the works for quite some time. The design/concept of how this was going to evolve has gone through many phases with much consideration taken for each component right down to the last barb fitting.

I plan on doing some work tomorrow and will post what I get done afterwards.

This is quite the tank and is fun to be working on. These last few tanks I have worked on has been a nice opportunity to learn more about these larger tanks. But I will also add some pictures along the way!

Here is when we get the actinics on and then the halides. This is the Giesemann Infinity Series with 3 250 watt lamps and 4 x 80 watt T-5 lamps. Lighting and fixture are stunning to see.

I see Philip is wearing a Skins.................. shirt!!!!!!!!! :)

Yeah, I was not happy when he showed up with that horrible attire :why:

Most of the pics I made him turn his back when I took the photo. He can tell you that I harrassed him about the Deadskins all day..................BELIEVE THAT!!!!
